We installed and tested the AfterShip Referral & Affiliate app as part of our evaluation.

The app offers a wide range of features and is free, which makes it attractive at first glance. It is part of a broader ecosystem of AfterShip apps, which adds more capabilities beyond just referral programs.

However, for our use case, we were specifically looking for a dedicated referral program solution. The app felt quite bulky due to the number of features and integrations, which made it less suitable for a focused and streamlined implementation.

Because of this, we decided to move forward with a more specialized referral app that better fits our requirements.

Overall, it is a powerful option for businesses looking for an all-in-one solution, but may feel overwhelming if you need a simple, dedicated referral setup.

Premium referral setup, free plan that actually works
Set up our customer referral program in under 30 minutes. The settings give granular control over rewards, minimum order values, and expiry — exactly what we needed. Customization options for the popup and email are extensive, so we could match the widget perfectly to our brand. Free plan is genuinely free with real functionality, not just a trial. Amelia from support was responsive and helpful when we needed branding adjustments. Recommended for any Shopify store wanting to launch referral marketing without commission fees or upfront costs.

NEVER use Affiliate Link with them!!!
I started an Influencer Campaign on 16th of january and got A LOT of orders -> I can only see one in the Dashboard. This is ridiculous. I already lost so much time writing with more than 5 people from "Support" who keep saying "wait for 7 days after sale is confirmed". Its been already 2 weeks and I got NO SUPPORT and need to pay the influencer! If I dont get any help from development Team; I will have to calculate manually the Influencer Commission...
THIS APP & Support are a disaster!!

We’ve yet to start using the AfterShip for Affiliate Program, but the installation of the plugin and outlook is promising - and that is a positive. For a free app, this can’t be beat. Shall update this review again in due course. Thank you.

[Updated] This app has been in our Shopify Store for a couple of months now. It’s pretty useful, but would also prefer if the referral code can be customized for a select collection (say regular priced items) than outright for the entire inventory (discounted, non-discounted, sale items).

This has been a great tool for bringing new clients to my shop! I am seeing a good number of referrals come through as a result; it runs smoothly and is completely automated, which is fantastic! Customer service is great as well if you have questions. I highly recommend this app!

I suggest, Don't use the APP!!! I lost $499.80 after a Shopify customer made a purchase. I worked with Customer Support and they have yet to fix the issue. One Customer support person said the Shopify Customer referred themself, and as was able to receive the discount code. The Referral History section of the app showed no (0) referrals! Also, no purchase was made to trigger the App to give the discount code.
I.e., I used the Referral Program popup where the Advocate will get 10% off when a referee makes the 1st purchase.
I still have the App installed but deactivated the referral program, in hopes it will be fixed.
According to the AfterShip Affiliates Customer person, "the discount rule totally relies on Shopify's ability, currently, they don’t support excluding specific customers from using the coupon".

Great app and amazing support. I love the free features and the ability to upgrade my version for free so I can have more than 20 new referral links per month without any Aftership branding. The support (Karan) provided was amazing, his service was super quick and everything was so easy
