Rise Gift Cards & Store Credit

At first glance, a very promising and easy-to-maneuver platform.


But what impressed me most was the onboarding experience.

Our Shopify Plus store moved to the Rise app in 2022 and since then Gift Cards are the bane of my monthly accounting.

Problems:
Rise reporting was initially very poor and it required receiving monthly reports from our Rise account rep.
Our Rise integrates with Loop Returns and every once in a while the webhooks duplicate store credits to customers making extra work for our team and costing us money in credit issued wrongly that is used by the customer before we find it. This month alone Rise duplicated about 7.5k in credit that our CX team had to find and correct.
Cancelled store credit has no audit trail and leaving a note is not possible so as the accountant I'm left guessing as to why a store credit is cancelled and how to record the financial transaction.
Refunds issued via Rise store credit on any Shopify Store (outside of the gift card|store credit payment method) does not show the amount refunded to the store credit anywhere on the order except in the notes field. Refunds to store credit do not reduce the amount available for refund on your Shopify order, so if you're not careful you could end up paying your customer for their order!
Store credit is an adjustable balance, not a discreet one-time GC balance, which is a nightmare for accountants and breakage calculation.
Rise store credit expiration date does not appear on the Shopify gift card transaction and is only available via Rise reporting.
There is no liability by gift card | store credit balance reporting available in Rise on the V2 version. Only total liability
Physical gift cards sold are not included in Rise's liability balance.

I could go on and on about how much I hate Rise gift cards and store credit (customer wallets), but I suspect that many gift card apps are similar, if not worse. These products are geared for marketing teams, who happily sign up and don't give a crap about the backend nightmare they're creating for finance teams.
