I got an answer quickly and it actually solved the problem!
MailChimp makes it easy for small business owners like myself to craft professional, compelling email campaigns. And their live chat support is great, too. Rafael was very responsive and friendly!
DEAN was awesome, patient, and super helpful! Made life so much easier.
I encountered an issue with my plan, but Troy was quick and supportive in resolving it!
DAVID was able to help me edit an automatic email and provided help with the amount of time before the pop-up appears on the website.
*** A Terrible Experience with Mailchimp – Unfair Billing Practices ***
My experience with Mailchimp has been highly disappointing, and I cannot in good conscience recommend their service.
I initially chose Mailchimp as a backup system for my emails, using the Essentials plan at $11.00 per month. However, at some point, they shifted to a business model that, in my opinion, is unfair. Their two-tier billing system charges inflated prices for a Contact Block with 250 contacts, even though they could simply switch customers to an Adjusted Plan—which costs half the price.
Billing Issues & Lack of Customer Support
On January 26, 2024, we contacted Mailchimp to pause our billing after our system was spammed with thousands of fake sign-ups, which inflated not only our Mailchimp charges but also affected other integrated systems.
Our message was clear:
"We have a problem with our list, which has grown beyond expectations due to spam. Can you set our billing on hold while we try to find a solution? As you can see, we are not sending out any campaigns from our account."
Despite this explicit request, Mailchimp continued billing us every month, totaling $3,990.25.
When I followed up again on January 26, 2025, their response was a generic, unhelpful email:
"Hey there,
Thanks for being patient with your Mailchimp support request. We apologize for our slower response times as we are experiencing extremely high volume. If the above information does not help, please ensure you are writing from the account's owner/admin email address and reply to this email. We will prioritize your reply and reach out as soon as we can. We appreciate your patience!"
Meanwhile, they continue charging my card $516.75 per month.
Unfair Practices & Difficult Cancellation Process
To make matters worse, Mailchimp has made it unnecessarily difficult to disconnect from Shopify. When attempting to remove the integration, they display an alarming message:
"Are you sure you want to disconnect? Disconnecting your Mailchimp account will cause any Shopify data that's been synced to be deleted from Mailchimp. That can't be undone!"
Final Verdict: Think Twice Before Using Mailchimp
Mailchimp's billing practices and lack of customer support make them an unreliable and frustrating choice for email marketing. If you're considering Mailchimp for Shopify or any other platform, I strongly advise you to think twice before committing.

We've been using Mailchimp for 5 years. The platform is incredibly user-friendly and has been a reliable tool for our business.
This week, we encountered an issue and reached out to support. Rafael was amazing—he resolved the problem within minutes!
Rafael was very helpful, he helped me solve my problem (audience sync, etc) and guided every step. I felt accompanied and the advice he gave worked and solved my issue.
