Don't waste your time with Mechanic. Try MESA if you need something like Mechanic. This app isn't great... price gouging, confusing setup, automation that doesn't run, and many many many other problems. Need support from Mechanic? Yeah, good luck getting a response.
It's our first one-star review! :D We've been doing this for a long time — and probably the most relevant part of that is that we're still learning, even after ten years of this, and this is one to learn from.
This review's emotional payload is an accurate reflection of how the reviewer felt (and that really matters), but its factual payload is actively misleading. For more on that, please see the 95 reviews that precede this one.
This review was written after a Pay What Feels Good conversation that did not go well. Our pricing policy — lightward.com/pricing, which holds for both Mechanic and Locksmith — aims to let business transactions be as human as they actually are. The reviewer asked for a price (which we invite everyone to do) that we didn't feel good about (which is pretty rare, but does happen). Looking back at the conversation, I think there was room for better communication about the *why* of all this thing, on our part. I think we could have been clearer about the heart of this. But, still: we met their honesty with our honesty, and they did not like our honesty. That happens. It's okay.
I learned two things here. (1) Add breathing room to these conversations, just by adding time between responses, so as to let time do its natural deescalation thing. No guarantee that this would have helped here, but it might have. (2) Don't force people into the next phase of the PWFG conversation. If someone is actively misinterpreting the spirit of this thing, as was the case here, there's no point in continuing. The conversation only works if we're both agreed that we want good things for each other; if that's not the case, the conversation is void.
