So far this has been a good app to add to my business. There are many issues with the card reader. Like others have mentioned before, it falls asleep every 10 seconds and sometimes it disconnects in between transactions, one right after then the next. This has been extremely frustrating and overshadows the reason I transferred from Square, (which was a dream to work with and never gave me any issues), to Shopify Point of Sales. I initially transferred from Square because I wanted to add barcodes to my products to make it easier to check out customers when at popup markets. This has been a great addition and makes it almost worth having the garbage card reader. It sounds like this is an issue across the board and something that Shopify should look at and fix. Also, what is the deal with only offering a free plan or a super-pricey plan? How about one in between? Or better yet make it so I can create a shipping label regardless of if the order was placed via my online store or the point-of-sale app! That's a pretty basic need when selling goods at a pop-up market. Oh also, Square was super easy to work with when I was in a location with a different tax rate. That would also be an amazing thing to add to the free plan for the point of sale. Since that is what it is for. I figure if Square can do it so effortlessly, Shopify should be able to get it handled as well! A little rambling yes. My main points are that the hardware is not reliable, the app shuts down and fails to do its job on a regular basis, and the free app needs more features added to make it run smoother and user-friendly. Obviously, Shopify needs to care more as these issues have been going on for some time and nothing has been done to fix them. Buyer beware is what I would say if you are not looking to add barcodes to your products, stick with Square.

Please ensure you are on our newest Shopify POS app version ( 8.1.0 ) to assist and that the system you are running the app on is up to date as well in regards to iOS or Android version. When these two things aren't updated it can cause connection issues. If you are still having issues with the reader though please feel free to reach out to our Retail support, open 24/7! Please note as well that we have passed on your feedback in regards to the hardware and different features of our plans. Thank you again for your time.

It's so complicated. In addition to the fact that nothing is clear, it turns out that I am signed to PRO against my will. When I simply deleted the channel because I wasn't selling from the warehouse, it turned out that I was still signed up for PRO and paying for a whole year, thinking it was just Shopify payments. Definitely not recommended!!!

Hello My Great Greenhouse, thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We do offer the Pro Plan as a free trial when you first start using the POS channel, however, the trail let you know that if you don't choose a plan by the time it ends it will continue on the Pro Plan and it seems to be what happened on your case. Deleting the POS channel won't cancel the subscription, so we recommend that from the POS channel you change the subscription to Lite(the free plan) > save it and delete the POS channel and the app. These steps ensure that you won't be billed in the future.

Clunky and convoluted to use when vending at events and markets on the phone, especially compared to Square. Extremely limited reporting, again especially compared with Square. Can't even get the most basic info out of the reports. Such as pre-tax sales amount summaries, this makes my monthly tax calculations take a lot longer than ever in the past. I also used to have other POS systems when I had a brick-and-mortar shop that made this easy and fast and provided lots of good reports. If it wasn't because I am trying to keep everything under one roof (e-comm and in person sales) I would go back to Square in an instant. Shopify wants to force you into paying high monthly amounts to give you basic functions even though they already get the privilege of collecting merchant fees. That they fail to provide basic or streamlined functionality is very disappointing.

This is a horrible device. It does not work, z I have been given the run around that it has been escalated. One week calling every day. I’m canceling it and have my bank give me the refund and returning the device

This App is absolutely horrible. When I signed up for it I thought it was free just to find out that it's the POS Pro, which is $89 a month. I can't manage the subscription in order to cancel either because the App is malfunctioning. I wasted money and Support is taking their sweet time getting back to me to help me cancel it. The POS Pro is way too expensive and hard to manage from Shopify admin. I don't recommend it!

It just doesn't work at all...
Whenever I click overall, there will come out a pop-up asking for a trial of POS PRO. After I closed it, the page would be into error every time

Terrible experience trying to migrate my existing QB data. Don't listen to the sales people that will tell you how simple and automated the process will be. Two months later I'm doing it all myself the hard way. The hardware is all Apple so be ready to replace everything if currently a PC user. It's just like the regular Shopify platform in that several basic and obvious features are lacking and might only be overcome with another app. Want to save a customer cart in POS and later open it to complete the sale on a different pos device? There's an app for that.

Update: I am a pro subscriber and know I can save the cart on one POS device, but it's not possible to reopen that cart on a DIFFERENT POS device.

Update #2: The hardware sucks. You'll need to repeatedly reconnect your tap/chip card reader to the ipad for no reason. Multiple times per day. Did you know that their system doesn't even support card swipes?

Regarding the saved cart, I will certainly pass this up as a feature request to our products team as it is a great idea that a lot of people would benefit from. At Shopify, we pride ourselves on the continued growth and development of our platform.

The POS app can also be used in an Android device.

As for the hardware, it is not expected to have it disconnecting it constantly throughout the day. We recommend you contact the Retail Support team to help you troubleshoot the card reader. We are here 24/7 to help.
