This app is a DIAMOND in the ROUGH! It's simply astounding that currently it has only 39 reviews. But I know why.

Shallow people judge things on the basis of appearance, mostly. They just don't have the knowledge or the sophistication to really determine substance. They oftentimes fail for form that doesn't have function.

Lay-Buy currently has function but lacks somewhat in form. If and when it develops form as well (gets a graphics guy to spruce up the looks of the app a bit and hires a technical writer to clean up a little bit of the clumsiness in the simple but could be a little clearer and better organized onboarding instructions), one day people are going to come over here and find that this app has 1000+ positive reviews because IT IS THAT GOOD!

I have 3 Shopify stores at https://www.PureHeartsInternational.com and https://www.MyForbiddenLeads.com and at https://www.Elohim.Church and I'm not only using Lay-Buys, I'm building much of the way I do business around it because I like it so much. It's closely integrated with PayPal Express Checkout and passes the installment payment cost to the customer in the paltry 1.9% admin fee and that really makes it unusual and special compared to most if not all of the other recurring subscription/membership apps that are addicted to Stripe and usually overlook my favorite, PayPal.

I was planning on making this an initial SHORT praise of Lay-Buys but it's like Lays Potato Chips, you can NOT STOP once you start! I could praise Lay-Buys all day and as I continue to develop experience with them, don't be surprised if I do. This first section was written on February 5, 2018 from my https://www.PureHeartsInternational.com Shopify store.

Warrin is great, too. Answered every single one of my emails promptly and thoroughly before I let him really know what a huge fan I am.

I've been pushing every time I'm in chat with them the Shopify Gurus to push Lay-Buys. I can't imagine any kind of Shopify merchant that wouldn't hugely benefit with this app in their store. It's really the biggest no brainer I think there is in the entire Shopify app store. If I could give it 100 stars and 100 different store testimonials I would. :)

I had no problems installing the App. But I think I have spotted a problem with the lay away concept and dropshipping: I cannot order the items immediately as I would have to pay the full amount out of my pocket and it would get shipped immediately before the customer haqs paid for it. If I delay ordering until the full amount has been paid, whaqt happens if thhe items go out o9f stock?

I download this app. I can not even get past the API part. I enter my information. and hit save and it does not save it. I do not know it would work for my website or not. Just sad

Updated to add one more star. Works, but not smoothly. I tried to install this yesterday. The directions are not clear, but I'm confident I did all the steps that are required. It shows up as a payment option at checkout, but when I Continue with purchase, I get an Invalid API error. I did validate my PayPal API info, and can't figure out why this would happen. Emailed tech support, and got the following response: "I’ve just activated your account- please ensure you have the gateway PUT IT ON LAY-BUY installed." (Which I'd already done)

(Merchant ID, which is autofilled)" I did not find this particularly helpful, and am still getting an Invalid API error, with no further response to a second email. Doesn't help that the time difference means I can't get tech support during my business hours. UPDATE: Apparently, this company has two apps. "Laybuy" and "Put it on Laybuy" (both with the same avatar) which is confusing, and not mentioned in the documentation. Laybuy is not compatible with USD...the other is. Got "Put it on Laybuy" added as an alternative payment method, and working, and here's the message I got from the first customer to use it: "Okay...placed the order....but the site is not completely user friendly. I put my info in...then it told me the info didn't take....so I went to put it in again....using a different card...and it just said the order was placed...without sending me to the lay-buy site. So I went to my PayPal...and it looks like it took the first info I entered....though there's no info on when each payment will be deducted. Also...I changed the downpayment to 30% with a 3 month payment....it took the first payment...and I guess I now make 3 additional payments. So...as your Guinea pig...not an Intuitive site...but I'm sure there must be some bugs that can be worked out. Let me know what I can do to help." The payment screen the customer is taken to is cluttered, and people will actually need to read, to understand it. We all know how that goes. I'll give this a try for a few more months, and update as needed.

great idea but it needs work, it slows down the page a lot since it waits for it to load, and also it would be a good idea to add 15 days payment too! Thank you and good luck

This seems to be a very under rated and FREE app.

The basic setup is actually pretty easy. Set up an account with Put it On Lay-Buy.

On the Put it On Lay-Buy website -

Enter in the PayPal API details - 3 items.

Install the Payment method into Shopify (sticks it into the list of Third Party Payment methods)

Install the App into Shopify.

Then jump over to Shopify and select Put It On Lay-Buy from the Third Party Payment methods.

Enter in your sign up email and the account code they give you.

Literally ten minutes after setting this up we had a Lay-By sale. We did put up a banner on our website advertising it.

The sale went through fine - we received the deposit and the App in Shopify shows the sale details.

The buttons could do with a bit of modernization like a previous reviewer said.

We are very pleased with this app. Solid effort !!!

Honnestly, this app should get a serious review of the Shopify app store...

The first red flag for me was that the copyright on their user-interface says 2014... I mean, in how far should you trust a payment gateway system that hasn't updated their copyright since 2014, or even taken the time to add the necessary code that shows the current year? (What about GDP regulations of 2019?)

I installed the app and honestly was very skeptical from the start: there are countless grammar errors on the user-facing side of the app, the whole user experience doesn't make any sense, as it displays different installation processed in different places + it seems like there are no actual fixed names for any of the functionalities. I believe that this app was written by a single person, which also leaves me a little worried.

Now, the actual installation doesn't actually work... The "install embedded app", which I believe should either take you to an app that would create an embed on the front end of the website or install the code for it, simply redirects you to the first page of the app.

I then contacted support, which I believe wrote the app (Warrin), he didn't address the issue that I mentioned in my message but instead asked me to "Then finally do a copy of your PayPal credentials into your dashboard, per steps below". Strangely enough, the app doesn't have any inputs for these Paypal credentials, which I also mentioned in my message, but he didn't address the issue.

Then, what I found very strange, is that the app and he specifically ask you for the Paypal credentials. (Email address + Password + Signature). * This is against Paypal's terms.

A third-party app that functions with Paypal, should make use of the technology using API keys or webhooks, and never ask a user for the account email or password directly.

Anyway, I now deleted the app from the store, and I believe that Shopify should seriously review this, and I believe that the developer should make sure to update the app, remove the bugs, have a clear user experience (not use different terms in different places), and review its functionality to ensure it's actual operations are legal.

I wouldn't waste my time downloading, as the actual app simply doesn't even work...

This is a fair point and we need to update our 2014 text. We did update our privacy and other regulations to adhere to GDP in 2019. We will have this updated this/next next week.

No, a team of 1 designer, 2 developers. Behind the App is a payment gateway with in/out APIs that communicate with PayPal. So also a PayPal developer.

You state that you believe an install of embedded app will either take you to an app that would create an embed on the front end of the website or install the code for it. Our App does not function this way. The App only performs reporting functionality and resides within a merchant store’s backend admin, for their payments tracking for all lay-buy orders.

The App doesn’t have a tab or input section for PayPal credentials because the App only performs reporting functionality. Our gateway and APIs, webhooks communicate with PayPal’s APIs (seven PayPal APIs)

As stated above, the App performs only a payments reporting function. We do not ask merchants for their PayPal email and password - as a third party gateway partner, we ask merchants for their three credentials in order for us to match the recurring payment transactions to their profile for payments to be paid directly into their PayPal accounts. We are a global PayPal partner with our gateway and APIs, webhooks communicating with PayPal’s APIs (seven PayPal APIs). This partnership includes PayPal tracking all global payments, we pass for their processing.
