    Details on all the features - for those that like reading:

    ✔ Same checkout flow for both "one-time" or "recurring" orders.


    When your customers checkout with a recurring product in their cart it gets added to the cart exactly the same as if it were a "one-time" purchase. When they checkout it uses a checkout flow that feels and looks exactly the same as the Shopify Responsive Checkout. It uses your existing shipping settings and has a built in tax engine to charge proper tax down to the County and Municipality!

    ✔ "Subscription Only" & Fixed Shipping Dates.


    This app has all kinds of options, like offering free shipping only on subscription orders, special discounts, etc... But two of the most commonly used features are the ability to make a product "Subscription Only" and set a "Fixed Shipping Date." If you set a product to Subscription Only it will not have the option for a one time purchase. We thought so :-) Our exclusive inventory forecasting tool shows you what you'll need to have in stock to fill your subscription orders for the next 7, 30, 90, and 180 days.     So let's say you have 10 items scheduled to be shipped next month, but on average you sell 3 a month. Your predicted inventory needed would then be 13. Oh, and we'll always shoot you an email too if you don't have enough inventory for the upcoming week or month. We got your back!

    When you offer recurring orders on your store there are two main things you need to consider regarding product management. 1 - What happens if you delete a product in your Shopify admin? And, 2 - What happens if you change the price of a product on your store? Here's what we've done for you to be able to handle these situations.

    What happens if you delete a product in Shopify?


    Hey, we're human and we forget things! If you delete a product in your Shopify store that's on existing recurring orders, the next time that order tries to generate it will get an error. So when you delete a product that happens to be on a recurring order, you'll get a friendly email letting you know you need to deal with it. In the app there's a page dedicated to managing this, and you have two options there:

    Option A) You can simply select a replacement product that will replace the deleted product on all existing subscriptions. When you do this you can choose to use the new product price, the old product's price, or even enter a new price all together!

    Option B) You can simply remove that product from all subscriptions. If you have thousands of orders this can be very time consuming. So on your product management page you simply select to remove it, and it will update all orders for you!

    What happens if you change the price of a product on Shopify?


    If you change the price of a product on your Shopify store the price of that product on existing customer subscriptions will not change. Existing subscriptions will remain locked in at the price the customer purchased at. However, if you want to change the price of that product you can easily do so in the app.

    You can globally change the price to a new set fixed price, OR you can use our price modifier tool to increase or decrease the price a certain amount. This will be based off whatever the current price is on their order.

    Whether you swap the product, delete the product, or make a price change, you can choose to have the app automatically email all the affected customers letting them know about the update. Pretty neat, hey? :-)

    ✔ Automated Emails


    Speaking of automatic emails, there are a handful of automated emails built into this app to make your life a little easier. All emails use merge fields that allow you to build templates that can be customized for each customer with their products and details.

    • Credit Card Denied. (When a customer's credit card is declined with a link for them to update their card info)

    It wouldn't be cool if customers could only use coupon codes on "one-time" orders and not "recurring" orders. At least we didn't think so! To solve this we built a replica of the Shopify coupon engine into the app. Simply replicate your coupon codes in it and that code will then work on any type of order, recurring or one-time! Use them to:

    Boost total sales: Let's say your average cart total is $80. Why not send your customers a free shipping code for orders over $100?! This encourages your customers to add that little bit extra to their cart.

    Gain new followers: 92% of people trust recommendations from individuals over companies themselves, so why not issue influencers their own discount code that they can share!

    There are three ways you can offer recurring products with this app. Maybe you want customers to be able to buy just one recurring product at a time, maybe you want them to make an entire cart recurring, or maybe you want them to be able to have a combination of both! You can do it all with this app. :-)


    • RECURRING CART - Customers can select whether or not to make their entire cart a recurring order. With this option nothing changes on the product page, customers add products to the cart just like normal. On the cart page the customer will have the option to make the order a one time purchase or select to make the entire cart recur at an interval they select such as weekly, monthly, etc.
    • SINGLE PRODUCT - Customers find a product, select what they want their recurring subscription interval to be (weekly, monthly, etc) and then checkout. With this method if they choose to order a product as recurring they don't add the product to the cart, it takes them directly to the checkout page. This is exactly the same way Amazon does it.
    • MULTIPLE PRODUCTS - This is similar to the Recurring Product method, but when a customer chooses to buy a recurring product it adds it to their cart rather than take them to a checkout and they can continue shopping and add more products. They can add more recurring products at the same or different intervals AND they can add products that are not recurring all in the same cart.

    Common Questions


    Q - Will this app integrate with shipping, order fulfillment, and accounting apps?


    You bet! This app uses your regular products in the normal way they're used everyday. The only difference is if an order is recurring, the app generates it every month rather than the customer. When it generates the order, it becomes a regular order in your Shopify admin. So if your orders are getting pushed somewhere else it will do so whether it's a recurring order, or regular order.

    Q - What about Taxes & Shipping?


    This app fully integrates with your existing shipping settings, you don't need to do a thing! The only thing to note is that when you install the app sometimes it can take up to an hour to sync everything. For tax, unlike other apps, we don't rely on a 3rd party. We built a fully integrated tax service that the app uses to ensure up to date rates.

    Q - How does it handle my Google analytics and conversion tracking?


    We've got you covered! The app has a special "Scripts" box you can enter all your conversation and analytic tracking scripts into.

    Q - Is there liquid code I need to install to use this app?


    Yep there is. But not to worry, if you're not good with code we're happy to install it for you for free. :-) In the app there's a Help tab where you can click a button to request one of our experts to set it up for you.

    Q - Will customers need multiple accounts for this app?


    Nope, they all tie into their existing account on your store. However customers will need to be logged in to make a recurring order to tie it to their account. If they're not logged in they'll still see the recurring options, but when they try to make a recurring order it will ask them to log in.

We really like this App and how easy it makes having a subscription box! Thank you!
I wanted to add to this review to update it from a year ago and say that the support staff saved me today and went above and beyond! Specifically Morgan Wowk but I’m sure a lot of other behind the scenes people as well. They helped me fix a problem within hours that originally would have taken days! The emergency was my technical error and they still dropped everything to come to my rescue! I can’t say thank you enough! Great service and staff!

This is a great app but really wish it included a capability to manually create a re-occurring order. We have many elderly customers who don't like to use any type of technology and call in for orders.

Other than that, its simple and easy to use.

I am fairly new to this app and so far I am pretty satisfied with the ease of creating subscription options for my customers. I really like to the diversity in frequency of shipping with their option. I do have a bit of an issue with the coupon codes not seemig to sync between the app and the Shopify store, as we do offer % discounts as well as free shipping discount codes to certain customers. Overall, so far I am pleased with using the App for my company.

So far, I'm totally impressed by the amazing service by the support team! Leanne has patiently helped us work through What seems like a million questions. She has provided detailed answers and instructions in a timely manner, allowing us to move forward with the setup. Whenever she didn't have an answer to a particular question, she followed through and got back to us within a short time with the answer (she was able to answer most questions right away!). There are some hiccups, but nothing that can never be fixed, taught (with patience I might add) or assisted with in an expedited manner by Bold's service team. We have had nothing but stellar customer service with Bold, and are very happy! Shout out to Javon, Arcee, Genevieve, Cam, and whomever else always helps us out. Thank you!

Bold have repeatedly asked me to review the app, as do most developers, but I wanted to wait until I had a decent amount of experience with it, which I now do.

The app has great functionality and the team is fast to help. It's remarkable what you get for only $20 a month. I won't go into all the features - I think Bold's sales pitch does that pretty thoroughly!

The best thing you can get from reviews is knowing where the skeletons are. So that's what I'm going to do, but keep in mind this app is categorically a 5 star offering.

In the back end it feels like you have two stores, with parts of it syncing really well, and other parts being manual and sometimes clunky.

For example, I have found the process for deleting items from your store and then from the Bold's app difficult. There is a clear guide from Bold on how to do this, and it should be simple, but clicking the links in the app to fix issues with having deleted items on subscriptions often just ends up with the fix 'hanging' - much the same as the cursor on your Mac turns into a spinning colourful ball. I have found that if you leave it for hours it eventually works. I've brought this up with the team but haven't had success in getting them to understand the problem (they think that I'm not able to follow the steps, but I can, it's an issue of speed.)

Coupon codes don't sync between the app and the Shopify store. This isn't a huge deal for me as I'm not using hundreds of them. It's something to consider though if you are using a lot of coupon codes as depending on your business you may often be entering them all twice.

You also can't give a 0% or $0 discount with a coupon code like you can in Shopify. This may seem weird but there is a use case for it - you can sync Bold with Refersion (which is great), but if you want a referral code to only reward the referrer but not the buyer then you want the buyer to enter the code, have it trigger in Refersion but not discount the purchase price. The use case here is that if the Referral partner is a charity and the buyers are motivated to enter the code to help the charity and not to get a discount. This is a rare example, but still getting out in the open.

But again, this is a $20 app, and see all the cool stuff it does in Bold's description. It still easily gets 5 stars - the value for money is remarkable. I just want to add value in this review by telling you what they obviously won't.

I can't fault the functionality and flexibility in what you can do with subscriptions, in terms of having one off orders and subscriptions, having a mix etc etc, clearly described in Bold's sales pitch. It's all true and amazing.

The portal for the customer is functional, but without spending money on development (which at this point I can't afford) it does not bring any 'delight' to the customer. It does what it needs to do, but the user experience could do with some improvements. The first thing I would do is create a video that appears when the customer logs in for the first time which would show them what all the buttons do and how to use them. For example, of course the store owner knows that the customer can reduce the next order without reducing the following orders, but the customer doesn't know this. A tech savy person may work it out, others may just delete their subscription. So communicating the amazing flexibility of the software with the end user is a huge potential area of improvement. Polishing that portal up for out of the box users would also be great. It lacks beauty. Again, it's $20 a month. Perhaps they could have a second tier that costs more but has these additional features.

Be aware that there are loads of potential emails that can go to customers when different actions are triggered (such as a change in delivery date, qty, price, etc etc) and at some point early on you are going to want to invest a significant amount of time in customising those emails. The ability to customise them is a feature, but factor it into your planning.

The single biggest warning I will give to people considering this app is this: be clear about what you want to offer customers before you install it. Don't make my mistake. The app offers so much flexibility and functionality that it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking "whoa, I didn't even think about the ability to do that!". Before you know it you may start thinking about changing your business model because of what you can do with the app. This is dangerous territory - and a trap I've well and truly fallen into. A monthly subscription box is nice and simple. You can do WAY more than this with Bold's app. The question I have to keep asking myself is should I? Or am I falling in love with the technology and not the customers?

So far things have been great. I'm using Recurring Orders and Customer Pricing app together. Having both functions coming from the same parent company has been awesome to have them work and integrate together. It took a bit to transfer all my information over from my previous app, but the support team was really helpful throughout the entire process. Now that things have been going for a few weeks, I'm really happy how it turned out. Highly recommended!
