This app does what you would expect Shopify to do natively, and it does it really well (and free of charge!). Set up a flash sale on a collection and when it's over the prices go back to normal. I particularly like that one can optionally add or remove individual tags for the duration of the sale too. Excellent, thank you!

This app completely solves the problem with the built in Shopify discounts not showing a sale/price difference until checkout. Extremely easy to use and works great!!!
Does the job very well! And it's free!! This is a plus!!! Shopify should have more free app like this! Small business cannot always afford too much cost so we can concentrate on growing the business.
