Compress your product images using Tinify to speed up your store. Compress automatically or in bulk.
Product images are often the largest files on a Shopify store and can slow down page loads. Tinify compresses your product images using the TinyPNG API, reducing file sizes while keeping visual quality. Simply connect your Tinify account with your API key to get started. New images can be compressed automatically on upload, or you can compress your existing catalog in bulk. The app also supports converting images to WebP or AVIF, and originals can be backed up to Shopify Files.
- Automatically compress new product images when on upload
- Compress all existing product images at once with bulk processing
- Transform images to WebP or AVIF formats for smaller file sizes
- Back-up original images to Shopify Files before replacing them
- Monitor compressions, savings and usage from your dashboard

After installing it and connecting my Tinify API, the app compressed my images, but it also changed the order of product images across many of my Shopify products. In addition, newly uploaded images are automatically moved to the end of the product gallery after being processed, creating a significant amount of unnecessary manual work.
Although I had “Keep originals” enabled, the app replaced product images with optimized copies, and the changes affected my Meta (Facebook & Instagram) catalog and Product Ads. I am now trying to restore hundreds of affected product images and their original order.
I contacted the developer for support, but I did not receive a response. I also contacted the official Tinify support, who confirmed that this app is not developed, owned, or supported by Tinify, even though it uses the Tinify name and API. That was extremely confusing as a customer and led me to believe it was an official Tinify app.
Overall, this has been a very frustrating experience. I would strongly advise merchants to be cautious before installing this app, especially if they have a large product catalog.
Hi there, I'm the developer of the app, and first of all: thank you for taking the time to write this, even though I'm sorry it came from such a frustrating experience. You raised fair points, and I'd love the chance to make things right.
About the image order: you found a real bug, and I'm grateful you described it so clearly. Compressing an image used to re-add it at the end of the gallery, which shuffled the order and could even swap the featured image. And because the URL changed, channels like your Meta catalog saw it as a brand-new image. The good news: this is now fixed. The app replaces the image file in place, so every image keeps its exact position, URL, and media ID, including new uploads that are auto-compressed.
About "Keep originals": you're completely right, that label promised more than it delivered, and I've reworded it. The setting saves a backup of each original to your store's Files so you can restore it anytime, but the product image itself is always replaced by the compressed copy; that's simply how compression works. It's now called "Back up originals," and the help text says this clearly.
Your images: here's the silver lining, since you had backups enabled, all your originals are safe in your store's Files (Content → Files), and each one can be restored from the app's Products page. I'd genuinely like to help you get everything back, so please reach out to us at support@holymolylab.com and we'll work through it together.
About your support message: I'm so sorry you didn't hear back. We never received it, and I'd really like to figure out what went wrong. Could you let me know which email address you wrote to? t
