I've used this app for almost ten years, and although it's not perfect, it does the job of sending my customers links to their purchased PDF patterns, and it's free.
I would LOVE it if the files you uploaded were marked with a date!
I would LOVE it if customer email addresses were synchronized with the address they use and updated in Shopify.
Finally, the customers who have canceled a purchase or have received a refund don't get a new link sent if the file is updated.
Finally, a hosted version of the app would be amazing. I wouldn't mind paying for one, so I wouldn't have to manually send people new links to their PDFs.

I loved this app. But it stopped working randomly one day last week and none of my customers were getting links to their downloads.
Basically stopped functioning properly ( No link on checkout page and random emails to customers with download links if they are lucky). Support said they are not continuing to support the app - would be nice to have been told before you upload thousands of digital files. They suggested using a few other 3rd party apps on their store - all of which are more to subscribe too than my actually shopify plan. Appalling and I will be looking at a new platform such as Payhip which looks after its customers way better. They need to do the right thing and fix the very basis problem such as giving customers a doenload link - not rocket science.
DO NOT get this app. Shopify is no longer supporting it and this is a quote from a tech support rep: the current app is in maintenance mode, meaning that developers are only investing resources into resolving "critical security fixes or widespread bugs". After using it for four years I can no longer upload files.

I've used this app for years with no problems. With the last Shopify settings update this app no longer works at all. I also had it installed on some of my client's websites I designed because it never gave me trouble before and it was free. DO NOT DOWNLOAD because Shopify support told me they would not be fixing the app. Now I have to download a new one and reupload over 1,000 digital downloads.
When we release an update, only a small proportion of customers are receiving an email notification and the updated files aren’t being displayed within their account.
This app was coded in the middle ages and haven't been updated since! Here are 2 critical issues:
- It is not compatible with the new customer account, there is no way for your client to download the files they purchased from the Order page.
- You cannot HTML markup the email templates for Download Ready and for Updated Product, all you're left with is some crude text that looks like a badly formatted spam email
Digital Downloads app devs, are you still alive?
I don't know what the Devs did but this app is currently useless. Not only do new customers not get an email or a download link, but OLD customers lost access to their previous download links on their Order Status Page. This app literally does nothing now.
this app was working fine then randomly stopped working. I can't get in touch with anyone and support tells me "it's been escalated" but it's been 5 days so far and still nothing. All of this is currently happening on black Friday weekend and NONE of my orders are fulfilled. I need to reach out to each customer individually to manually send them what they purchased. I can see that the app "requires an update by app developer" but support was not able to find that (I found it myself) and as of day 5 this is STILL not fixed.
If you sell digital downloads and think about moving to Shopify for this feature: don't, unless you have done your research. Soon after I switched to Shopify with all my customers, they stopped the support for the digital downloads app. I had many chats with the customer service, with different feedback. Some said I should look around for an additional app, others said, they appreciate the feedback and will forward it to the developer team, yet others again said they won't spend any more time on developing this feature.
This is 2024, guys. You cannot just sit there and see the money rolling in raising your prices and do nothing, when it is literally a digital world now. Very unimpressed with this part of shopify!
