UPDATE: Fabulous news, the new fucntionality allowing us to import templates from the old ( legacy) order printer app is BRILIANT! Thank you!! You listened. It works perfectly. 5 STAR!
Why oh why can't we have a tempate builder? Why do we need to be coders? I used the originl Order Pinter app for years and it was great...you purchased templates from its sister app and had the WYSIWYG functionality to help you to adapt it. Perfect. Now, I am not able to modfiy your new layouts to fit my label paper, for instance..I use S3 integrated label paper to create picking lists and to add shipping-to labels onto the order! Like almost everyone who runs a small business, I imagine? So I have bought another app...VERY unhappy, Shopify. Your TWo designs - packing and invoice - are rubbish and dont work for me...why can't i use the code from the old app? Why does your system reject it? NOT HAPPY
Hi there. Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, we truly appreciate it. As I can completely understand the impact of this change, I've gone ahead and shared your feedback with our developers. - Blair, Shopify Support
Very disappointing "update". The nature of our production workflow depends on an ever changing and highly customizable order printer template - And while the legacy app is by no means perfect, I was always able to achieve whatever customization I had set out to accomplish - So when I saw the message that Shopify was sunsetting the old order printer app and migrating to this new one, I had high hopes that they would improve upon the already solid foundation that was the legacy app. I expected, at minimum, quality of life improvements, and was hopeful for some new features.
Instead what I got was an app that is objectively worse in every regard. I say this with no exaggeration or hyperbole: I have yet to find a single thing the new app does better than the legacy app - And worse, there are many cases where the new app does not support some functionality that the legacy app had for years. This is simply unacceptable when my company and many others not only rely on these functions, but have been using them without issue for many years.
Just to name a few:
1. Page breaks - The new app does not seem to support any method of forcing a page break
2. Custom scripts - The legacy app was capable of importing JavaScript libraries and running custom JS functions to perform actions within the template. The new app blocks user scripts and this is no longer possible
3. Float styling - New app does not support styling such as “float: right;”
I am not asking for more. I do not need the new app to do anything better than the old - But at bare minimum it needs to support the things that we have all become accustomed to through years of using the old app. And to be clear: I do not mind the liquid object name changes - As an intermediate/ advanced user, it is easy to modify existing variable names to get them to function in the new app and I understand changes like these are sometimes necessary despite the temporary frustration it might cause merchants.
Thank you so much for your detailed feedback. We want the new app to be not only functional for your business, but also an improvement upon the legacy app. I'll ensure that our developers receive your feedback for consideration in future updates. -Sophia, Shopify Support
Para mi es una app excelente, con el ayuda de chatgpt me he creado mi plantilla perfecta
HATE THIS INVOICE!!!!
Whoever thought this up should be fired. The legacy invoice is way better.
You just have to ask, "Why?" why change an easy to read and understand invoice with this?
I'd like to give it a minus 10
Thank you for review and feedback. We are always looking for ways to improve our app. -Emily, Shopify Support
Tracking company and number and HS tarif code not working anymore. So we can not use this invoice for international shipments.
*Update 15th of July
- fulfillment.tracking_company and fulfillment.tracking_number yields no results
- also HS codes are no longer available to use.
So we can't use invoices from Order Printer to ship internationally and use for customs. Sad when Shopify is bragging about markets and global expansion.
Hi, there! It sounds like you might need to update the variables from your old templates. This guide includes the variables supported on the new Order Printer app: https://shopify.link/2Zoy. -Sophia, Shopify Support
This update is a significant improvement for us! We now have the ability to include more detailed information in our invoices and packing lists, thanks to the use of metafields, customer notes, and a wide range of variables and styles. While the new requirement for object names in variable names was unexpected, it ultimately allowed us to enhance our documents exactly how we wanted. It would have been convenient to automatically transfer the old Order Printer Templates, but we understand it’s a complex task.
Overall, great job on this much-needed upgrade!
Updated: Changed from 1 back to 5 stars. Thank you for taking the time to ensure templates were completely compatible with new version. They look and work perfectly without me having to do any additional coding. Happy to hear that Shopify (unlike some other platforms) takes the time to listen to their customers and work out the kinks. Very happy.

Please rest assured your comments will be shared with our development team. Thanks for your patience as we continue to work on this new app and tailor it to our merchants' needs! -Summer, Shopify Support
Wish they would have just kept the same app instead of ruining it with this new update. Hard to get any support and difficult to make changes. Go back to the original, please.

If you de-select the "packing slip" option, it says unable to find order on shopify POS. I wish shopify would stop changing things that no-one has asked for and work on the multiple other issues in POS.
Hi there! Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback with us here. We can record this as a request internally with our developer team, if you can reach out via our Help Centre here: (https://shopify.link/7PNJ), so we can gather the info necessary to file this. Expect lots of bugs and zero help from shopify support as shopify requires transition to this "new" Order Printer.
This "new" Order Printer does not work correctly with any customizations/templates from the "legacy" Order Printer, and Shopify's support staff are zero help. Shopify's support page on transitioning from the "legacy" Order Printer to this "new" Order Printer is woefully inadequate, too.
With this new Order Printer, Shopify changed all their liquid formats plus simple template code that worked perfectly on the "legacy" Order Printer no longer works on the "new" Order Printer...and nobody at Shopify can say why...or offer real solutions.
What's more, if you use any 3rd party providers on your shopify store to help manage inventory, pickup/delivery, locations, bundles, discounts, tipping, just about anything...expect additional issues using this "new" Order Printer...and Shopify support is again zero help because they use 3rd party providers as a scapegoat.
Don't get us wrong -- the "legacy" Order Printer was far far far from great...it required a TON of template customization to be even remotely useful.
This is still the same for this "new" Order Printer...except that Shopify has thrown in the "bonus" of mysterious liquid and code changes (seemingly in secret, leaving both customers and support staff to stumble upon them as bad surprises). With this "new" Order Printer, Shopify shows yet again how out of touch they are with us customers doing business in the real world.
Difficult to see this "new" Order Printer as more than a thinly veiled attempt to squeeze more money out of customers by providing substandard products and service that leave customers in the lurch unless they pony up $$ for a yet another 3rd party app to band-aid Shopify's poor product and service.
Do better, Shopify. If we don't say something, they never will.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. The new app is intended to offer improved performance, so we want to ensure that it is functional for your business. Our developers will take your thoughts into consideration for future updates. -Sophia, Shopify Support
