I am really upset and want to share our experience as a Recharge customer. We are a small annual subscription business that migrated to Recharge from another payment provider in September 2025, expecting the platform to handle our recurring billing reliably. Instead, we have experienced what we believe is the most damaging vendor relationship in our company's history.
Within weeks of our migration, our renewal success rate collapsed dramatically. In our experience, customer cards that had previously been processing without issue began failing at significant rates, with new decline codes appearing that we had never seen before in our years of using a different platform.
We escalated the issue through Recharge's support channels in December 2025 and spent over four months working through their team trying to get answers. During that time, the failures continued and our business absorbed real financial losses. We engaged our payment processor's support team directly to investigate, and in our experience the technical findings they ultimately provided pointed to integration-layer issues that we believe Recharge had the operational ability to address far sooner than they did.
In our experience, the situation has gotten worse rather than better. We think the most concerning part is what we observed about how Recharge responded once they understood the scope. They paused our payment processing while we worked through escalation, but we are not aware of any communication from Recharge to their broader merchant base about the underlying issue. To our knowledge, they have continued to operate the same integration for other merchants and have publicly announced new enterprise customer migrations onto the same infrastructure.
They have failed to make it right for us by acknowledging the harm, by providing meaningful remediation, or by communicating transparently with their broader customer base about an issue that we believe affects more than just us.
We share this because we think other merchants evaluating Recharge or already on the platform deserve to hear an honest customer experience. If you have had similar experiences as a Recharge customer, we would be interested to know.
Started using this app many years ago when they had fair pricing.
Now we are locked into them since we cannot easily move subscribers, and they have massively raised prices while doing nothing.
Their fees amount to over 10% of our recurring revenue, and that is on top of the merchant fees we pay because Recharge, even though they bill like a merchant account, you still need a separate merchant account that will bill you more.
Do not make the mistake of using a company like ReCharge that will just keep raising prices on legacy customers once they know they have you trapped.
Really disappointing, almost laughable support team. I keep losing money and time responding to customer experience defects in the Recharge experience for gift redemption. Support team is generally lazy, lacking ownership, slow, and unresponsive. Can't tell if they don't know how to fix or perhaps care to fix the issue. My customers are rightly upset they can't redeem their gift subscription (some valued at $300+) and Recharge's response was essentially "it works some of the time but not all the time, and we can't replicate it, so we can't fix it."
If you want to be left alone to deal with the wake left behind by a bad product, use Recharge.
I’m very sorry to hear about this experience. I understand how serious and stressful this situation is, especially when it impacts your customers and revenue. This is not the level of ownership or support we strive to provide. We want to review this issue in depth and ensure the right team engages directly with you to address it properly. A senior member of our team will reach out to follow up.

Terrible customer support. Interface is deceptively designed and isn't user friendly. We are looking to move to Loop.

New issue with Recharge. Not possible to know how many months are left on customers' pre-paid subscription. This should indeed be a basic information, but no. I do need to figure this out manually myself.... Not happy again !
Oct 24 : Customer complains : they always were charged 6€ for shipping costs. September, they were charged 10€ (I do not know why!) and October, they were charged 3,49€ !!???? I emailed the support team. Let's see in how many emails this will be solved!!! So, poor system, poor technical support, very expensive, and not user friendly.
NB: can anyone get me out of here ????
Sep 24 : Many issues with the app. And on top, a customer ordered a subscription for her and for her father on the same order. So, basically the same address whereas it should be sent to two different addresses. I suppose this is an exception. But yet... I had to exchange at least 8 emails with the support team, to confirm the situation stated at the very beginning over and over again, and with no solution in the end. Extremely frustrating and time consuming ! NOT HAPPY !
I have been using Recharge since 2019. Since Shopify theme 2.0, very poor service :
- the app has not been robust (customers not going through the right checkout)
- Support let me down on my bug for over a week with massive impact on my business
- They made me move to shopify checkout and on the way increased by 99$/month my subscription (with no extra service quite poor support on the opposite)
I'm feel being abused as my customers are subscribed and they know that moving elsewhere would imply to ask customers for their bank details again => churn.
Really NOT HAPPY and thinking seriously about an exit.
We are appreciative of your feedback. I will be sharing it with my team as we discuss future improvements within Recharge.

I’m extremely disappointed with the level of support provided by this company. For the second time, a visual element related to their widget has appeared unexpectedly and randomly on our website, severely disrupting the layout and directly affecting our user experience and sales performance.
What’s even more frustrating is the lack of urgency on their side. This issue has now been live for nearly 48 hours, and we are still without a proper fix. Despite repeatedly flagging the problem and stressing how critical it is to our business, we’ve received no meaningful updates today, not even a basic acknowledgment or timeline. I’ve had to chase them multiple times, and each time I get the same vague response, with no real sign of progress.
For a company offering tools that integrate directly into customer-facing websites, this level of support is unacceptable. Issues like this demand immediate attention, not delays stretching over several days with no communication. I’m honestly shocked by how unprofessional and unresponsive their support has been. If your website performance and reliability matter to you, I would strongly caution against relying on them.
I'm very sorry to hear about your experience. We understand how critical your site performance is and agree that timely, clear communication is essential. I’ve flagged your feedback for our leadership team so we can investigate what went wrong and ensure better follow-through.

I wish I could've accessed better support for this app. We opted to pay for the pro subscription vs the much cheaper $99 one on that basis, so we could get help with installation. 12 months in and a lot of wasted time and money later, we're cancelling the app $6k in the hole having not been able to get it working whatsoever.
Thank you for sharing this feedback. I’m sorry for the frustration you’ve experienced. It sounds like you weren’t able to get the support you were expecting, and that alone can make setup feel overwhelming. While we weren’t able to find any past conversations from your store, it’s clear something got in the way of getting help when you needed it. Our support team is always available through the in-app chat, and we’re here to guide merchants through installation whenever they reach out.
We want to understand exactly what happened. Joel Pednaud (Director of Support) is reaching out to learn where things broke down and to talk through how we can make this right.
Thank you again for being candid with us. Your experience matters and we’re committed to addressing it fully.

I would not use this app. They push updates and create really critical bugs that create extremely negative experiences and then don't take accountability for it. I've had this app for 3 years and have had a number of issues. Most recently they pushed an updated and grabbed the wrong shipping profile information, accidentally charging almost 800 customers shipping on a free shipping product. Then told me it wasn't them and they weren't responsible for it/took no accountability. I had to figure out a solution to manually credit every single order and there is still not a fix. We cannot wait to change companies to one that is more reliable.
I am sorry for the stress and extra work this has caused. We should have taken ownership of helping you fix this quickly, regardless of where the charge was captured. We also should have offered practical paths to resolve hundreds of orders at once rather than pointing you back and forth. I am sorry we did not do that from the start and am ensuring that the lesson is learned.
To rectify this situation, Joel Pednaud (Director of Services) has already reached out to you, both to assist but also to get your unique perspective outside of the ticket itself.
What we have seen on our side for your current state:
• Your shipping in Recharge is configured to pull rates dynamically from Shopify when charges are created
• Shopify did not return a shipping rate for those orders
• Because no fallback rate was set, a previously saved Shopify rate was applied
To resolve this, we can:
• Provide a clean export listing every affected order and refund amount
• Help facilitate bulk credits or gift cards if refunds aren’t possible through your gateway
• Have a specialist guide you through the process until all customers are made whole
You have been a customer for years and we are grateful for your patience as we work through this together. One of our team members has followed up with you to discuss the next steps in making this right.

Unreliable software.
Recharge used to work well for our store without issue, but recently we've had nothing but software bugs and hassles where our customers are charged shipping when it should be free.
You should look for a more reliable subscription management option.
I appreciate you sharing this feedback and I’m sorry for the trouble you’ve experienced. We’re reviewing the issues you described to identify what went wrong and how we can make it right. A member of our team will be in touch to help address your concerns.
