Mechanic

It's rare that I feel passionate about a Shopify App, let alone any app at all. Mechanic however—I'm in love ❤️. Shopify has incredible API support, but it can be challenging to make use of the APIs to their fullest, even for a seasoned developer. Even if you have the skills, you still need to build your own application to make use of the APIs, worry about choosing a build environment, hosting, deployment, maintenance, downtime, and all the other stuff that comes with a custom solution. Alternatively, you can use an automator/integrator like Zapier, but then you're limited to the functionality that the automator platform chooses to expose. ¶ Mechanic removes all that, and give you access to the full power of Shopify's API's, all using the familiar language of liquid that so many of us developers work with day in and day out. It used to be that if I needed a small custom solution for one of our shops, I would spend days trying to remember how to set up a Ruby environment, get it hosted on Heroku, get webhooks working, and then have a barely working application that did just that one thing and nothing else. ¶ Since using Mechanic for the past half-year, I honestly don't think I'll ever build a custom Shopify application again. Mechanic has empowered to me to create all kinds of solutions for our business that I never even considered attempting in the past—the barrier to entry was just too high. With Mechanic, I can just write a task to do whatever I want, and best of all, *have fun doing it.*

I would posit that this is very likely to be the BEST VALUE app on app store. And yes, I know it's not a free one. It's actually much better than the description here because it already has about 190 tasks ready to roll (including several I requested myself).

I installed this a couple of weeks ago for two jobs; to tag customers based on the product type they ordered and to create and maintain a Recent Products Collection. It has done this easily and with idiot proof configuration options. Mechanic does SO much more. So many of the pre-written tasks seem to be really useful and replace a bunch of other apps that are out there in the app store. . Give me a while and I will set up some more tasks and provide another review but in the meantime this is my favourite app so far discovered.

**Update 4 months later **
I cheekily requested several more tasks a couple of days ago and the wonderful support was highly responsive as before. They are clearly more than competent but also seem to genuinely care. They have superb communication skills and has cheerfully helped me out very quickly again, and then provided follow on support when I couldn't resolve a simple issue myself. Gawd they are good! One of the few firm who actually go the extra mile and deliver top quality service.

I see there are now 235 tasks prebuilt and I'm slightly embarrassed at what a low price I am paying for all this functionality and support - and at what good value this is, especially when compared to so many other apps here. I've just counted up the tasks I am running and it's around 20. Rather more than the original two I had bought the app for! If I was a developer instead of a merchant, I expect I'd be getting even more from it.

I recognise this is a rather gushing review: it's not normally my style - but credit where credit's due!

This apps' developers know what shop owners need. You can find many function of it and save your time very well.

I'm able to close 500 customer service tickets a day thanks to Mechanic. API sync issue with an app? Trigger an email. Need to send with personalized info in 500 emails to customers that meet a criteria ? Tag the orders and automate it with Mechanic. The possibilities are endless.

Mechanic has forever changed our workflow, every Shopify app should have a Slack channel where you can access instant support and community help.

I feel slighted because I can not give 10 stars.. If you have any engineering background and simply need to customize anything within Shopify, this is a MUST HAVE. Their slack channel is completed loaded with extremely professional developers who eat and drink the cool-aid that is MECHANIC!

I love this app! It does SO many things! My favorite feature is the "accept maximum amount of orders per day" and it resets every day! It has brought me so much peace of mind! Everything this app does is so helpful! Love it.

Solid app that does what it's supposed to. And the team has been very responsive anytime something needs tweaking and I don't know how. Good stuff!

We had previously built a custom tool to do some of the most important daily functions of our store. Unfortunately, we had a technical platform close down on us and we had to scramble to find a solution. Not only was Mechanic the solution, but the team (Isaac in particular) helped get our custom app spun up and working within 1 hour. A lot of it was proprietary and he just made it work flawlessly! Can't say enough good things about him and their team.

Bar none, the best app for Shopify! Mechanic has been the single most important app that has allowed us to diversity our product and service offering, monitor order progress, communicate with customers and shift our business to a more online and COVID conscious platform all while saving us money! Mechanic has allowed us to clean up our apps by consolidating entire suites and eliminating multiple single focused apps. Mechanic has greatly improved our communication with customers and facilitated delivery of digital services to customers. Mechanic gives us the ability to tag and therefore track orders, customer behavior and products automatically. Mechanic also helps enormously with internal communication with automatic emails that have fully customizable templates using liquid variables. These are only a few of the amazing features of Mechanic, but are enough to make it more than worth it. Mechanic is so powerful and helpful, and I believe we have only begun to scratch the surface. It is very easy to use and very intuitive but also allows for much, much deeper customization with a little bit of coding knowledge. I recommend Mechanic for any store and highly recommend that it be the first app that is installed. I only wish we had discovered it sooner. Mechanic is the kind of app that takes advantage of the Shopify platform fully. A store can and should build itself around Mechanic.
