The app doesn't put import/export data for international shipments: hts code, values, etc. It is causes problems, because they ignored it. It is in their api and simple to include. There is no reason to leave it out. It reduces the value of the the app and service.
I'm done with this app. I've tried to resolve this several times with Shipstation support, but they tell me it's "working as intended." Here are my issues...
1) When I change an order's address in Shopify, the change in address doesn't import into shipstation. I've sent items to the wrong address many times because of this.
2) When updating the address in the Shipstation app, the web version doesn't reflect the change, causing orders to be shipped to the wrong address.
3) The sync is extremely inaccurate to what is shown in Shopify when shipped via multiple vendors. For some reason, the developers can't figure out how to have an order that shows fulfilled in Shopify to reflect correctly in Shipstation, causing me to spend hours cross-referencing my open orders in Shopify to manually mark them as fulfilled in Shipstation.
4) My Etsy orders aren't syncing correctly, causing missed orders. For some reason, Shipstation only imports some of the orders, not all of them from Etsy. Again, I've tried to bring attention to these issues but the Shipstation team shows no interest in resolving them. Instead, they want to treat me like I'm ignorant. It would also be helpful to have a phone number so I could discuss the specific issues live.
I'm moving on.
I have used Shipstation for 4+ years. I liked Shipstation despite its quirks. Two weeks ago they overfilled my Stamps.com by $800 account due to their system error when we tried to ship and refill our account. When your Stamps.com account balance is too low, a window will pop up to refill it. We recharged with $200, or so we thought, but we got the prompt again that we didn't have enough balance and we needed to purchase more. Did it. .system error - same thing. Little did we know their purchases were delayed by 20 to 30 minutes and each time we pressed the buy button, it was purchasing more shipping and creating a shipment, but not showing the shipment or updating the balance in our account. So 5 transactions, $200 each -$800 more than needed. I only found this with our credit card transaction review. We called them and they refused to refund me without canceling my Stamps.com account. They were very interested in how this happens, so guessing they were debugging their system error. We didn't need $1000 shipping, so after we reached out to them and tried to resolve it, we contested with our credit card for $600 of that. Shipstation was very quick to shut my account down. If there is anything I can say about Shipstation is that system of shutting off a customer's account is very quick and efficient. Good job. After we realized our account was shut down, we called back in and they said the only way to get reactivated was to bill back the $600. Without options and needing to ship, we caved and said go ahead. Start the clock, it took them another 7 days before we could ship. This service feels like they really don't want me as a customer or think overcharging and holding hundreds of dollars of customer money is good business. Will I recommend Shipstation - No Way - something is broken over there. did I before this? Yes. I wasted over 6+ hours of my time over 7 days resolving Shipstation's screws ups and bureaucracy in getting my account turned on. I don't know if there are better options at this point, but you can be sure I am scheduling time to figure it out. If you want to count: 7 calls over 7 days to get this resolved. 6+ hours of my time. On several calls with primary support, the agent said they couldn't resolve my issues - Only the people at XXX number could resolve this. Then when I called the XXX number, they said they couldn't resolve the issue either and to call back the original number. I asked for a supervisor, said there is none and to call back the regular number. Did that, waited on hold again asked for a supervisor, agent said no for 15 minutes until he spent the time reviewing my case and asking all the same questions. Never got to speak with a supervisor. I run a business - like all people who have a Shopify account. Stuff happens, but when it does having your account shut down for a system-critical service is a real issue. If you do use their services, have a plan in place for when you have issues and expect multiple-day downtimes. Expect no apologies. Expect no one to take responsibility. Expect a lot of broken promises and wasted follow-up. Also, they sent me a survey to ask how they did. After starting, I realized it would have taken me over 30 minutes to complete it. I opted to spend that time here to let potential customers know about my experience. Update 6/23/2022 - Shipstation/Stamps management reached out to me by phone/email to understand this issue better and see what went wrong after seeing this review. They are going to look through their support strings and try to figure out what went wrong here and try to make it right. There is someone at the other end of the line here listening at least.
Update 10/23/2023 -We have used shipstation as a backup and for very specific shipping needs, but find that shopify rates are the same or better in most instances. If you use UPS and UPS misses a $200 overnight first - you can try to get a refund from Shipstation, but they have a weird form, zero follow up and say that if UPS approves the refund, we will see a refund - just did an quick check against our and I have never seen a refund - at least 3, likely 5 submission this year. Seems like they give you a place to push buttons with zero follow up. They don't have any paper trail. Still don't recommend these guys - they will stay as a backup for us unless they don't like this review.
If you are another vendor, don't reach out to me to solicit based on this. I am covered.
I've been meaning to write this review for a little while now, but like any good love story, taking the time to come up for air has been hard. Also like any other crazy love story, all that comes to mind when I think about Shipstation is a bunch of corny cliches. I'm a stay at home mom of two little boys and started my own clothing line for new moms. I was sending a couple of orders a week to friends and family by going to the post office. Business picked up to four or five orders a week and I started printing shipping online. Then we ran our first ad on Facebook and things took off. Shipstation no joke changed my life. I have managed to keep up with over 200 orders a week (and keep my babies alive) by using the program. I can even make scrambled eggs and print postage at the same time. I can't get over how easily it works alongside Shopify and how easy it is to learn how how to use. Seriously if you are using anything else right now, stop- and bring Shipstation on board. Sometimes at the end of the night when I go to sleep all caught up on orders, I send a little virtual hug to Texas. Seriously, my company would still be a little hobby if it wasn't for Shipstation.
Very easy to use and set up. The service has been friendly and prompt. Overall, we're happy with our decision to fulfill orders through them.
*UPDATE JAN 2016 #2*
A rep from shipstation called our business to discuss features they are working on. Sounds promising.

*UPDATE JAN 2016*
In 2012, Shipstation was cutting edge. I think they stopped working on major features in 2014. Now looking at alternatives.
If you run a small business and need a pure shipping solution, shipstation is still a winner. If you need expanded functionality (barcodes, inventory management, etc), look elsewhere

AUG2012 review: Good product. Much better features than the other option on shopify. Def still some bugs though, especially in the automation rules... however, support has been responsive.
I used to be very happy with ShipStation.
HOWEVER - if you ever need help - their support is beyond useless.
I had an issue with shipping using DHL where it kept saying that I have insufficient funds with an error code.
So I opened a ticket with them and told them the issue that I have. About 4 hours later - they finally reply saying "there might be an issue with your card at stamps (which only does usps), please re-add your card"
That tells me two things - first their support is utterly clueless, second - they didn't even check my ticket, but instead answered with a canned reply.
I then opened another ticket, hoping to get a person that would at least remotely care. Nope - same reply from the other person.
Now to make things clear - they did take the $50 for the shipping, and added it to the account. The included screenshot shows that there are money. I also shipped 4 packages using USPS after that - without a single issue. So I tried talking to them again - it just showed me how clueless they are.
I am done with shipstation after using them for years, because this is unacceptable. If you are looking for a good shipping software to go with your store - AVOID shipstation and look elsewhere. I am just starting to look for an alternative, but I am very much done with this joke of a company.
Very easy to set up and train people quickly. The Integration into Shopify was very quick and simple and has no down time.
Fantastic application - pulls in orders from multiple marketplaces including ShipStation. Quite literally couldn't run my business without it.
I use shipstation on my shopify store and my wordpress store. Highly recommend great app.
