The Afterpay on-site messaging app doesn't work and the block is invisible so we had to get our developer to add a custom liquid code under the price block for it to finally show on the site. Make sure you add the custom liquid in the correct market you signed up for (i.e. US, CA etc) otherwise it will not work.
One advice is to ensure your default currency and primary market match the account you applied for.
Since we're based in Canada and the majority of our customers are from the United States, we set our default currency to USD and had to apply and get approved for a US merchant account, installed the Afterpay US (NEW) app and utilize our credentials for the US account.
If you have separate US and CA Afterpay Merchant accounts, you must have separate Shopify stores to activate Afterpay using each merchant credentials. If you do not have separate stores and is utilizing Shopify's Market feature, it will not work.
Useless App & Non-Existent Support!
This app does not work at all. We followed the official Afterpay On-Site Messaging Implementation Guide exactly as instructed, yet the message blocks either remained invisible or empty.
We tested multiple Shopify themes (including default, unmodified ones), and the messaging never appeared.
Inspecting the page source confirmed that the Afterpay script loaded, but the generated block was 0 in size—completely non-functional.
The official support was unhelpful and dismissive, repeatedly linking us to the same useless documentation instead of addressing the technical issue.
After weeks of back-and-forth emails, no resolution was provided.
Given that Afterpay’s own merchant support team set up our account incorrectly, we’re not surprised their app is just as broken. Avoid wasting your time with this app—it simply does not work, and Afterpay’s support does not care.
Straight up doesn't work.
The app block does not load at all and just stays empty/blank.
Support will tell you to refer to the extremely basic installation instructions, which obviously wouldn't help if the app itself does not function at all.
Horrible Customer Service, No Response!
Absolutely terrible experience with Afterpay. I’ve been trying to contact them for hours with no response whatsoever. I sent an email over many hours ago, and still nothing—no reply, no support, nothing. Their customer service is nonexistent. A company this big should have basic communication, but this is a complete failure. If you ever need help, good luck getting a response! Utter disappointment.
App does not work. I filled out the form for help and when they get back to me they want me to fill out an onboarding form just loops back to my status page for setting up the payment system. Does this payment system even work?
This app does exactly what it promises — no fluff. The setup was super straightforward with clear instructions, and it seamlessly added Afterpay messaging to both our product and cart pages. It now clearly shows customers they can shop with Afterpay, which helps drive conversions. Highly recommend for any store offering Afterpay!
The messaging is just that, a message, it shows customers on the product page and the checkout page that its available, the after pay button turns up after they click checkout on my shopify store. If you click on the green messaging button it just gives the shopper the run down, it doesn't take them to pay via after pay. So i followed the video and it showed up straight away. The reviews really freaked me out I didn't know what was going on!
It works anyway so nothing to complain about from me..
Works perfectly fine. Setup in literal minutes. I think those struggling with it either actually don't have Afterpay and think this app just makes it available on their website (lol), or they limited knowledge of how shopify works, and really shouldn't be in ecommerce game. Ignore the 1 stars, its insanely easy and the documentation are detailed and precise.
Directions were clear and worked perfectly for both product page and footer. Thanks so much !!
Works exactly as it is supposed to - very simple to get the Afterpay messaging on the product page.
