I had a complex setup — Zapiet handling delivery rates, subscription and volume discounts that couldn't break, and a free-shipping promo that had to apply only when a specific product was in the cart. Shopify's native discounts can't do that, and the alternative would have meant upgrading my plan plus another app, roughly $800/year more.
