We really wanted this app to work but it has a glaring limitation for apparel businesses.
If you use multi-variant products (e.g. a t-shirt in 6 colors), Apparel Magic forces the order of those variants to be alphabetical and overwrites any change made in Shopify. The impact is that when have a collection of say 20 shirts, and they all have a Black color variant, your Shopify Collection page will show an entire page of Black products. There is no way to merchandise Collections to show different colors (spring, sale, complementary). Furthermore, this affects all upstream apps and marketplaces from Shopify... Facebook, Instagram, TT Shop, Google Shopping, Cross selling, Upselling... it's brutal.
It gets worse. If you want to discount one variant color, say purple (common at the end of season), the position of that variant can't be in position 1 (eg what the user lands on) because AM locks variant order to alphabetical. This means the user has to scroll through all the variants before they see that something is on sale.
We asked to unsync product data from AM and just push inventory as a work around, but the sync is all or nothing. Support couldn't seem to understand the core impact to our business and just gave the standard "we'll put it on the roadmap" response. We've since disconnected AM completely from Shopify and will be migrating to another solution. Disappointing given that variant merchandising is standard practice for modern apparel retailers.
