I had a deeply disappointing experience using Bookvault as a print-on-demand service for my Shopify store. While the integration initially appeared seamless, the service quickly revealed significant shortcomings that impacted my business negatively.
Several customer orders went undelivered, despite repeated attempts to resolve the issue. This caused severe financial and reputational damage to my business, as I had to issue refunds and face customer complaints for orders that took over two months to resolve.
Bookvault consistently deflected responsibility, blaming couriers instead of taking ownership of the problem. Even after promises to resolve the issue, communication was inconsistent, and updates on progress were sparse.
I am still waiting for refunds for multiple non-delivered orders, which have been delayed for weeks. This has caused ongoing cash flow issues for my small business.
While Bookvault has reprinted some orders, the delays have irreparably damaged my relationship with key clients, including film schools and industry professionals.
As a sole trader, the lack of reliability and poor communication from Bookvault caused significant stress, leading me to seek legal and professional advice to resolve these issues.
While their pricing and products might appeal at first glance, the lack of reliable service and accountability makes Bookvault a risky choice for small businesses relying on timely order fulfillment and customer satisfaction. Shopify should reconsider endorsing this provider, as their failure to uphold basic service standards reflects poorly on the Shopify ecosystem.
Thank you for your review. As discussed, we are very sorry that some of your orders were affected by a 3rd party company going out of business and causing them to become lost in transit.
As you know, as soon as we had a full list of the affected orders, we replaced or refunded them all within a couple of days at our cost.
As is common with refunds, these can take a few days to hit your account after being sent, but again, were all complete within a few days.
We are truly sorry that you feel that we missed the mark with how we handled this issue but wish you all the best with your future endeavours.
In a word? DISAPPOINTING
Bookvault struggles with consistent leadtimes, poor customer service and a glitchy AF home-grown manuscript system. I have had more customer complaints from this Print-on-Demand company in the past 3 months than I've had in 10 years of selling books. From missing shipments to books missing from bundles to long delays, I have lost long-time customers and had it up to my eyeballs with cleaning up their messes.
There are 3 types of emails they send when responding to problems: "Wait longer", "Just try it again" and "Not our policy."
I went with Bookvault over Lulu or Ingram Spark to save money, but what it has cost me in headache and hassle, they're not worth it. Learn from my mistake and go with a more consistent, reliable POD partner.
Whether you're selling 10 paperbacks or 1,000 paperbacks, you deserve a good partner. Bookvault ain't it. Not by a long shot.
VERDICT: FAIL
I'm very happy with BookVault. It's easy to use, and they have a wonderful range of formats including 5x8 (which is not offered by Lulu Direct). Their support is first-rate.
