Early Bird fitted the use case I had perfectly. It can handle out of stock requests but more importantly for us, it allowed me to target individual products and create campaigns to build pre sales. I had full control over how this worked and the customer support is second to none. We have been using Shopify and associated apps for 6 years now and Early Bird have been one of the best to date. Highly Recommend.
This app is almost perfect... was easy to install, has great functions for setting up pre-orders and back in stock notifications and the support team is super responsive.
However, the only way for customers to place pre-orders is through our website - there is no straightforward way to take phone or in-person pre-orders and all pre-orders must be paid for using credit card (gift cards are blocked and debit cards are not a payment option through our website). The app does not work with the order creation tools in Shopify admin nor does it work with Shopify POS. As a result, we've had customers annoyed as they don't understand how we are not able to take their phone or in-person pre-orders.
To be fair, the Early Bird developers say these are Shopify system limitations. So, Shopify, if you are listening: stores that have both online and in-store sales channels need to be able to serve their customers properly. Limiting apps like this is very frustrating, since it is clear that many Shopify customers use the POS app alongside the web tools.
I’ve been using the Early Bird app, and it has been a game-changer for my business! Allowing customers to place orders by just paying a $19 deposit has significantly boosted my conversion rates. It’s a great way to reduce customer risk, making them feel more comfortable with their purchases, and in turn, has helped build trust in my brand. The seamless integration and functionality make it incredibly easy to manage pre-orders. Highly recommend this app to anyone looking to improve their sales strategy and customer experience!
Plus the founders are the best! They personally make sure that the app works perfectly fine. Josiah was someone who you'll feel comfortable to discuss all the problems with your store and he makes sure all the problems get resolved.

Josiah and his team have gone above & beyond since I downloaded the app for pre-orders for my new cap product! Josiah emailed me as soon as I got the app to ask if I needed any help getting started - he even set up my whole first pre-order for me and videoed it so that I could see exactly how it all worked! These guys are super helpful, thoughtful and the app is simple, easy to use and to understand! So grateful to have this app for my Shopify now and highly recommend! They are quick at responding for any technical support and made my first pre-order a breeze. Love that it also is free to a certain extent - especially when you're just a small business owner trying to make ends meet.
Early Bird saved the day! Highly recommend. Easy to install, no coding needed. We were in a tough spot with a delayed shipment right before one of our busiest sales days. We had run out of stock of our most popular upsell, which could have made us lose sales.
Setting up Early Bird was quick and simple, especially with the support team's help. We managed to recover over $100K+ in sales over which kept our customers happy and accountant happy. Best of all, Early Bird doesn’t charge a commission on sales, unlike other apps in this category. Highly recommend it.
