Avoid this app if you run a serious subscription business.
This is one of the most poorly thought-out subscription systems I have ever used. The documentation is confusing, the setup process is full of traps, and many critical settings become permanently locked once the subscription is activated.
When I discovered that the subscription was configured incorrectly, there was no way to simply fix the settings or migrate my existing subscribers. Instead, I was forced to shut down a live subscription and ask every customer individually to sign up again. Any business owner knows how damaging that is. You lose customers, lose revenue, and lose trust.
Because of the app's design limitations, I had to go through this process twice.
The most shocking issue is that the platform allows subscribers to receive scheduled digital content before they have actually paid for it. If you schedule a monthly content drop, customers can receive the next release, cancel immediately, and never pay for that content because billing doesn't occur until their normal renewal date.
This is not a rare edge case. It is a fundamental flaw in the way digital subscriptions are handled.
After months of frustration, lost revenue, customer confusion, and countless hours spent rebuilding what should have worked from day one, I cannot recommend this app. It feels like a product that was released before being properly tested by real subscription businesses...
We’re sorry this was your experience, and we understand how stressful it can be when a subscription setup does not match the exact workflow your business needs.
To clarify for others reading: the issue was related to a specific monthly drop model where customers receive the current month immediately, then future drops should only be released after the renewal payment is successfully processed on a fixed calendar date.
At the time, that exact billing/drop alignment workflow was not available in Content Vault. The app’s existing drip logic followed the customer’s subscription date, which works for many drip subscription use cases, but did not fully match your monthly package model.
Once you explained the use case, we worked with you directly, reviewed the setup, and prioritized a solution for fixed monthly drop subscriptions. That feature has now been built and is in final testing.
Regarding locked settings, some subscription settings are intentionally locked once a subscription is active because changing billing or delivery rules on live Shopify subscription contracts can create issues for existing subscribers.
We’re always improving Content Vault based on real merchant feedback, including documentation, setup flows, and more advanced subscription options. We appreciate the feedback and wish you the best moving forward.
Best,
