Unfortunately you cannot select what tags you want to create a filter about, you get what your store carry in total, and, NO metafields is not the answer it can only carry one value. A product should be able to carry multiple values and still be able to filter.. Right? Such as with tags, but what good is a SINGLE use tag filter. Once you use a tag filter it can never be used again because then it's cluttered with the other tags you wanted to use in the other filter. I mean WOW. How is it not possible to just have a selection of tags based on: Manual, prefix, suffix, etc. You should also be able to format the tags to be presented with automated rules as well. This is just not acceptable. It is just dumb and SO easy to fix. The funny thing, you know what, I just want to be able to sort on color on a single product with 24 variants (sizes, additions) but the same color across all the variants. The product itself contains Multiple colors and other products have different colors in it. This is not possible with Shopify at this moment in time. I have to use a third party app that replaces my collection-view which I've built out to be freaking amazing. With their basic themes, botching the whole design. That route didn't work either. So i'm left with liquid and javascripting. To filter a product by color.

Hi there, sorry to hear you're having trouble with the limitations with tag filtering. You can setup a metafield to support multiple values and filter on those. When you create a product or variant metafield, make it a "list type" by choosing "list of values" in the definition. For your color filtering, you can have variant-level metafields hold the color information and as long as you keep using the same variant-level metafield definition across your product variants, this may be what you're looking for.

Sorry to hear you're having issues accessing the app. If you're not the store owner, it may be because Staff permissions are not set to allow you to access all screens of the app. You can see in the Help documentation which permissions are required. https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-store/search-and-discovery#staff-permissions

If the problem persists, we suggest contacting Shopify's support team with details on what browser you're using and any errors messages you might be seeing.

extremely bad app. The gui or design for the filters is horrid. Not only is the options limited, it looks bad too

When filtering by size on a collection page, it shows any products that have ever had that size in stock, whether they are currently in stock or not. This is not a great customer experience. As filters on most platforms work, it should only show products with that size variant in stock. This seems to be basic functionality that isn't working.

Hi there; you can now control the display of out of stock product variants from the app's settings :) In the Settings screen, there is an "Out of stock products" section where you can choose to not show items in search results, which also applies to filtered views. You can find more information in the Help Center documentation https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-store/search-and-discovery/search#search-result-types

The app doesn't display out of stock items in complementary products. It should have an option for that.

Should not need availability as an extra filter! If you go to a collection page and filter products like clothes by size, ONLY products in stock should show. Adding an extra availability filter just adds confusion and is very bad UX. OK if you want to show out of stock products this could be a backend option, but as standard the app should only filter in stock items.

This app will not show the filter options on any search that returns more than 1000 items and will not be displayed on any collection page that has more than 10,000 items. For us this means that most of our big categories can't be searched up by their simple term and get filtering, and our "all products" page will never get filter options because we have categories with several thousand items and we have almost 20,000 item entries in general.

The prospect of this app is great because it finally allows customers to filter by stock status and it may work fine for boutique shops that sell a dozen items or so but the inconsistency for bigger inventory shops sucks and Shopify putting seemingly arbitrary limits on when it will function is obnoxious! The filter needs to be extended to work for all results and for all products. If the page can display it or the search can show the result, the filter menu needs to function too.

UPDATE: Upon further investigation it turns out the limit on the number of products per collection is 5000, not 10,000, so yeah, it's even worse, losing 1 more star Shopify. I contacted them and basically was given the standard "that's how it is, we'll tell someone about your problem and then promptly do nothing about it" response. I got a reply essentially saying it was a hard limit of the app and they weren't going to do anything about it. if you have large inventories, DO NOT use this app, it's garbage.

The idea of using meta-tags instead of actual tags is ridiculous. We’ve been using “tags” this whole time and now you guys changed it and it’s a huge step back for a lot of us And ridiculously time-consuming for a lot of us that have to make our products and we don’t have time to sit here and do the same thing twice. What upsets me the most is that I literally bought a theme years ago specifically for its filtering and now it doesn’t even work anymore due to this update. As someone who makes & sells clothing I have to add a color variant to each item for it to filter out in colors even if I only sell one color of that product. Huge thumbs down, absolute waste of time and it’s frustrating that I can’t even get filters to work in my online store like they used to without spending hours redoing some thing I already did.
