After reviewing your previous support request from February, we can see that our team spent considerable time investigating the concerns raised. During that process, we identified missing SEO data/settings as well as an improper custom HTML implementation in the theme's head section. This implementation could cause crawlers and SEO tools to incorrectly interpret the page structure, making it difficult for search engines to reliably identify SEO elements such as meta descriptions, regardless of whether they were generated by Yoast or not.

We provided detailed explanations, examples, and requested additional information and store access so we could continue investigating and help resolve the issue. Unfortunately, we never received a response after our findings were shared.

Yoast SEO for Shopify is built specifically for Shopify and provides functionality beyond Shopify's native SEO features, including SEO analysis, focus keyphrase insertion, advanced schema output, social sharing controls, and technical SEO improvements.

We will reach out to you directly to better understand your concerns and see whether there may be a misunderstanding regarding how Shopify, theme, and Yoast SEO settings interact. We'd be happy to revisit the case and help clarify anything that may have been overlooked.

We completely understand your point about the search or filters resetting after each product update. When working through multiple products, that extra step can definitely add up.

Fortunately, there are a couple of workarounds you can use.

One option is to open products in separate browser tabs. This keeps your original filtered search results open and unchanged in the main tab, while each product opens in its own tab for optimization. Once you are done editing a product, save the changes, close that tab, and continue from your original filtered list without having to reapply the search or filters.

Another option is to go directly to Shopify Admin → Products. There, you can use Shopify’s own filters to narrow down your product list first. After filtering, you can either open multiple products in new tabs from that list or select an individual product, click on More actions, and choose Optimize Yoast SEO for Shopify. This way, you can control filtering from Shopify and avoid losing your filtered view inside the app.

We’d like to clarify a couple of points, as there seems to be some misunderstanding.

Yoast SEO for Shopify does not rely on Shopify’s native CSV system. The app provides its own CSV template for bulk edits, but bulk editing is optional. In most cases, we recommend a gradual approach, starting with your most important products and collections.

Regarding your point about recommendations, the app does provide actionable guidance directly within each page. However, this depends on setting a focus keyphrase first. Without that, the app doesn’t know what you’re trying to optimize for, so it can’t generate scores or suggestions. Once this is in place, many merchants find the recommendations helpful as they guide improvements step by step.

This isn’t something the tool can reliably decide automatically, as choosing the right keyword depends on your products and how you want customers to find you. In practice, fully automating this would often lead to poor or irrelevant targeting, which can negatively impact SEO results rather than improve them.

Also, due to how Shopify works, this analysis runs in the browser and only after a keyphrase is added and the page is opened in the Yoast interface. That’s why pages may initially appear as “not analyzed.”

Even before that, the app is still applying technical SEO improvements such as structured data, meta output, and indexing controls.

We understand this may not match expectations if you’re looking for a fully automated solution. Yoast SEO is designed as a guided tool that supports you step by step, rather than fully automating decisions for you.

UPDATE March 27th: For clarity to anyone reading along who may not want to go through the entire original response, we’d like to confirm that the search option for Pages mentioned is not an oversight from our app, but rather a limitation within Shopify's API. Our development team is actively monitoring this, and we will implement the feature as soon as Shopify adds support for it in their API.

Unfortunately, this functionality is not currently available due to limitations in Shopify's API. As our app relies on Shopify's API, we are only able to provide the features that the API supports. At this time, the search option for Pages is not included, which is why our app offers it for Products and Collections instead.
