For the past four days, gift card emails have simply not been delivered. Customers purchased gift cards and never received their codes. At first, we were manually forwarding codes to our own email to resend them ourselves. Now even that doesn’t work.
Support kept asking about domain configuration — which has been set up and working for 3 years. Their own dashboard shows the domain as configured and enabled. Still, test emails return errors.
The most frustrating part? Delays. Multiple follow-ups with “Hi, any update?” while customers are waiting for gift codes they paid for. As a store owner, this puts us in a very embarrassing and stressful position.
Email delivery randomly stops and there’s no solution or fallback system.
If your store depends on reliable gift card delivery, be very careful. When it works, it’s fine. When it breaks, you’re on your own.
We responded to the support issue and ultimately solved the domain configuration issue. The expectation that we would respond within minutes on the weekend is not realistic for a small team. Once we solved things, we reached out to confirm and see if any further assistance was needed and never got another response from the customer. Updating my review from 1 to 5 stars. We were initially caught off guard when Govalo suddenly stopped working for us and support seemed to disappear. Since then, the app has been taken over by a new team who are doing a great job. Govalo is once again easy to set up and use, and our customers love having the option to purchase gift cards. When we ran into an issue with the gift card product showing multiple checkout buttons, their team quickly jumped into our store and fixed it so everything looked and functioned correctly. I would definitely recommend this app again.
The worst customer service ever. For some reason the gift card code stopped being sent - I was advised that I needed to update DNS settings but despite multiple emails nobody ever replies.

No service / customer support for months! I've tried multiple channels multiple times, via live chat / support / email since November at least 5 separate times and each chat / email gets an automated reply that a support ticket's been opened but no replies!
I planned ahead for Christmas gift card promotions, have been contacting Govalo since November, and now can't run my promotions. The app itself is great but the lack of support is not just a letdown but also costing me sales.
Update (Aug 2025), same problem is continuing again. Repeated attempts to get support with no answers. Out of pocket a few hundred dollars at this point trying to solve the problem for customers. Support needed!

We've tried reaching out to Govalo for support many times through different channels and have had no response. We're now forced to replace our gift card solution on Shopify. A disappointing experience.

Govalo is a great provider of Gift Card services with easy to use tools and easy to launch widgets. The team was also able to help us architect a solution to allowing usage of our physical gift cards on our website. This was a HUGE win for us as we do a decent amount of revenue through this channel. Govalo is also our first line of defense when it comes to gift card fraud!
The team is always releasing new features to help us drive gift card conversions and I could not imagine our collective brand portfolio without them.
That being said, we do have a few requests out for some features on importing and exporting data but nothing mission critical.
