Equate ‑ Product Compare

My store has a modern "dark" theme, which has presented some unique UX challenges with the apps here in the Shopify marketplace. We played around with multiple comparison apps and determined that this was the best one in the marketplace based on features, ease of use, and reviews. The problem for us was that the tables presented default to a dark typesetting that disappeared completely up against our dark theme. It took a few exchanges via email with the devs, but within a couple weeks we were off to the races. The app looks great, functions well, and they even went the extra step of sending me the code they used so I could duplicate the customizations when I update my theme later down the road. I highly recommend.

Though a relatively simple app, it is very important for businesses who are selling many similar products!
The app was extremely easy to install --doesn't require any coding on the business' part unless you want to change up the categories that are being compared between the products. Even then, with that as well as small changes such as the direction of the words on the Compare tab or adding the "Add to Compare" button, Jaron was really great in getting back to us and getting it done quickly!

I looked pretty closely at all of the available product comparison apps and this one is the best of the bunch. There is a good amount of customization available, like where to place the compare button and the terminology used. You can switch on/off various standard fields you want to show/hide. Through its support of metafields, you can create as many custom comparison fields as you please. We use 17 as of now and few of the built-ins. Some of the other apps attempted to create a UI for managing fields, etc. I found them to be more cumbersome than useful. Instead, I just use Excelify: Bulk Import Export Update Migrate app to manage the metafields. It is a MUST HAVE if you want to use this app with metafield data, IMHO. I also like how it shows a progress indicator as it renders the page. I don't recall the other app that did not do that - I could see a visitor bolting thinking the page froze. So kudos on the UI feature.

Support was receptive to my suggestions. I really hope to see the ability to use the metafield namespace as a section header to subdivide compared product attributes. Support was also great in getting it to work in my theme, as there was a small issue. At $5/mo it is also a great value.

In short, when you compare the comparison apps Product Compare is beyond comparison. ;-)

We are very happy with this app so far. Answered our requests quickly and think this will be a big addition to our site.

After trying multiple Compare apps, two features stand out. The first is getting started, and the app will automatically scrape information from your relevant page fields, such as description and price. This saves tons of time and effort getting started as many other compare apps do not have that feature. Second is the ability for the visitor to select and remove products directly from the compare page, not requiring the visitor to flip through pages that may not be relevant and increase visitor frustration as they click search click churn.
