As a designer, I find this tool incredibly convenient for customizing landing pages without any coding required. While there are occasional hiccups in functionality, the exceptional customer service more than compensates for these instances.

I totally loved this app, and I tell you why. For one, you get to build the page the way you want. You have control at the helm. You want a video player at the top, you can do it. Also, to optimize right there and then was great, and much more. Heavily recommend it

Can you elaborate a bit more on what is not clear with our pricing? The Build plan active on your account is the old Build plan that comes with extra pages. If you don't wish to stay on this old Build plan and if you would like to activate the new Build plan you are free to uninstall the app and reinstall it again. When you reinstall you should be prompted to select the new Build plan on the pick a plan page.

I see you were in a conversation with my colleague, however, could you also share more details about how the app is being clunky for you?

Unexpected HUGE charge

Trying this app is not advised… I was shocked to see that I was automatically charged almost $400 (with taxes) after trying this for a day. My $1 / month trial Shopify account just set me up to get taken advantage of. If I automatically was charged $39 like it shows is the price then I would understand but this is 10x that.
I only used for a few hours and didn’t find Shogun to be intuitive unfortunately.

I am not able to locate your account or a support conversation about the same as the store name- My Store seems to be very generic.

However, I would like to let you know that app charges or subscription charges work based on billing cycles in Shopify. We offer 10 days of free trial and if the app is not required we recommend uninstalling the app before the trial period is over. If the app is not uninstalled, the recurring subscription starts automatically, that is how subscriptions work.

I see you suggested you tried the app for a day, but if the app was not uninstalled before the free cutoff period, you will be charged which is expected behavior. And, you will be charged based on the plan you selected while you uninstalled and started the trial.

If you reached out to our support team about this previously, could you reply back to us on that thread?

Having said that, as I am not able to locate your store details I wanted to check if you can reach out to our support team at support@getshogun.com?

Our support team will be happy to analyze the account and share further information to clear any doubts or misunderstandings here. And, we'll be happy to help with the charge.

So throughout time Shopify has improved their landing page/theme configurator quite a bit to where add ons like this aren't necessarily needed anymore to build a terrific-looking ecommerce site. That said, Shogun is still, by far, the quickest and easiest way to drag-and-drop your way to a beautiful website. It appears that, with Shopify having a better theme editor, they are focusing more on allowing multivariate (A/B) testing for conversion rate optimization, SEO, etc.

If they had a 'lite' version that was $20 a month for those of us who like to do a quick-and-dirty change, that'd be well worth it. But the reason for the 3-stars is simply one problem: value. For small businesses who need to tightly control their costs there has to be a lot of value for almost $70/month. By the time one were to spend $2k/month for Shopify Plus, there are a better range of alternatives (like optimizely) for landing page optimization, so I'm not sure that the product fits on the upper end of the price scale.

I'm uninstalling it for now and will keep an eye out for the Dev to have the stripped down page building function as a standalone and I'd be re-subscribing if it's affordable. But as-is, it's not.

We are glad to hear that you recognize Shogun to be the quickest and easiest way to drag and drop your way to create beautiful designs. Thanks.

We were a “page builder” for a long time; however, we’ve expanded our offering to include core optimization features, including AB Testing, Targeted Experiences (personalize content to audience), SEO tools for keyword discovery, AI-assisted blog generation, and page performance monitoring.

While the entry plan pricing has increased, we’ve also added features, including our AI page designer, AI text generation features, and grid-based editing. The page limit has also been increased on our entry plan to 35 pages and we have removed page limits for any plan higher than the new Build plan.

We have removed the user seat limits which means there are unlimited seats and there are unlimited theme sections as well on all the plans to offer more value.

As I suggested, we sincerely appreciate your feedback and understand your perspective. I am also happy to share the same with the team.

Candidly, if you’re looking solely for a “page build” function, we may not be the best-fit solution as we've expanded our focus beyond that to provide a suite of tools. However, if you're looking to optimize your storefront and set yourself up for success, Shogun is the answer.

We have indeed changed our plans and pricing a bit. However, I feel there is some misunderstanding here.

Your account is still subscribed to our old/legacy plan and we are not forcing you to upgrade your plan. You can continue to be on the same old plan until you have the app installed. If you uninstall the app or upgrade, you will lose the legacy plan you have when it won't be possible to downgrade back to the old plan.

However, as I suggested, we are not forcing you to change the plan. You can continue to use it while the app is installed.

I tried to connect via phone but that went to voice mail. I have reached out via email and I would appreciate it if you could reply to me should you have any questions or doubts.

I am sorry to hear that you faced issues while using Shogun.

I think I was in a conversation with you previously with respect to your Shogun plan. I requested to reinstall the app so I could assist you further with the plan, however, I didn't hear back from you.

That was the only support conversation I could locate. Having said that, if there was something buggy with the editor we would love to gather additional information so that we can resolve the same for you.

As far as the themes are concerned, while Shogun works and is compatible with all the themes, we do recommend checking the themes from the Shopify theme store.

Also, we don't have the chat support on our base plan. Our chat support is available on specific plans, but our email support is equally fast.

Having said that, I can understand the concerns and I'll be happy to understand the issue with the app or the theme further. I reached out via email so that I can connect with you further. I haven't heard back from you yet. I also tried to reach you via phone but wasn't able to connect.

I love the flexibility that shogun offers when designing a site. It's just a deeper level of customization and expression than regular shopify themes. (To my knowledge)

Easy to use. Well built for developing between mobile, tablet, laptop, desktop. Takes a little bit to learn how to do exactly what you want to do. I'm somewhat computer smart, and found this app intuitive and effective. Give it a try for sure.

Shogun has totally lifted my website (I was previously using a free Shopify template)! I'm not an IT guru, but find the page creator easy to navigate using the Shogun guides. The customer service has been outstanding! Easy to book using Calendly, and Sweetan on the Support team is so very helpful. He has been very patient and taught me how to use and get the most of Shogun, including how to use and get the benefits from Sections.
I would highly recommend.

I found out that I had a major issue with my site over the weekend (the links behind all of the images inside my Shogun pages were not working). So I reached out to Shogun via chat on a holiday Monday (Labor Day). They were quick to respond and said that they found no issue with their app on my site.

A normal conversation with a normal app team would have ended here. But, Rhys at Shogun ACTUALLY cared about me and my Shopify store and making sure that my site was working. He dug in a little further and found another app that I had recently installed that was actually causing the issue.

STILL not finished, he actually took screenshots of that other app's code and sent it to me to send to the other app developer to tell them exactly what to change to fix the issue.

AND THEN he said that if the app developer if the app that actually caused the issue would not agree to text fixes or make any changes, that the Shogun development team would take over and do testing to make sure that all apps were working together.

Holy cow! I cannot get over the customer service! Seriously legendary.

Compared to other page builders that I have tried this one is complete trash! You can't even use all the features unless you pay for it. Not even if you want to create only one page. Seems like a complete money grab.

Update: Because of the limited features in the free plan you are not able to fully test the app. The app did not have the features that i needed.

The Free plan is limited and we highlight the same on our pricing and app listing so that our users are aware of the features the plan offers. I am looking forward to learning more about what feature were you looking to use and were not able to.

We also offer 10-day of free trial on all our paid plans if you wish to test more features or fully test the app. I wasn't able to locate any support conversation about the missing features as that would have allowed our team to help you understand the plan or the features better and I also noticed that our app was only installed for less than 5 minutes.

We appreciate the feedback from our users as that helps to improve the app and I would appreciate it if you could reply back to my email and share more information about what was missing from the Free plan that you were looking to use

I was taking a look at your account and noticed that our app was uninstalled within 5 minutes of it being installed and I was a bit curious to learn more about what feature were you looking to use and were not able to.

Our Free plan is limited and is more of a way to test the app and see how it works for your requirements. Our plans do mention that the Free plan comes with 1 published page with Limited templates, but it does offer the basic page-building elements to get you started.

I am sorry to hear that you felt the Free plan wasn't up to your requirements. However, I did want to understand the use case further on what exactly were you looking to create and wasn't able to as that would allow us to look into this further and assist you better.

They double charged me, last November I uninstalled and they still charged me. My store was deactivated because of multiple reasons. I just paid my bill to reactivate and of course they charged me again without even being installed. BEWARE!!!!

It looks like there seems to be some misunderstanding here about how the app charges work.

I see I was already in touch with you to understand these charges so I could help you further. While I did explain why you noticed these charges, I wanted to share the information here as well.

The app charges work based on the store's billing cycles in Shopify. If the app is installed, the monthly charges continue to work as usual based on the subscription plan that is active on the account. We always recommend our users to uninstall the app if the app is not required. This helps to ensure you are not charged further.

This is also true when you close or pause your store with Shopify. The store was closed on December 9, 2022 without our app being uninstalled, then reopened on August 3, 2023. When the store reopened, the subscription charges were unfrozen. The app was correctly uninstalled on August 3, 2023. This means any pending charge would be processed when the store is reopened.

However, I reached out via email to discuss and learn more about the charges in question so we could help you with them.

I'll really appreciate it if you could reply back to me on that thread and I'll make sure we can help resolve this and clear the misunderstanding here.

You can surely edit your existing pages with Shogun by importing the pages to our app and then using our drag-and-drop elements. You can even create theme sections to display content created within Shogun to be displayed on the existing pages via the theme editor.

We'd be happy to look into the issue for you and assist you further.

While I apologize for the inconvenience that has been caused, I wanted to let you know that my colleague reached out to you via email to explain this further.

It looks like your account started a 10-day trial for our Build plan. This was started on May 2nd. You upgraded from the Free plan to a trial of the paid Build plan at that time.

The Free plan and paid plans work differently.

After the 10-day free trial is activated, if the app is not uninstalled (considering you won't be using the app), the app must be uninstalled by the end of the 10-day trial period to avoid recurring monthly charges for paid app subscriptions.

However, since the app was not uninstalled until June 15, those recurring charges from Shopify occurred.

My team has shared further information in the email and they also tried to reach out to you via phone but were not able to connect with you.

I will be happy to assist you further if you can reply back to us.

After running into some issues with their scheduling feature, and after a long wait to have it working again (roughly 8 months), I can say that now the app is working flawlessly. Why it took this long to fix such an important feature I still don't understand. Having said this, we find the app extremely useful, and now that the main problematic issue has been fixed, we have no complains about it. Being completely honest when we encountered the scheduling issues last year we looked at the competition as we thought about dropping Shogun back then. Not a single app comes close to the level of controls and features that Shogun offers. So we stuck to it and now we are glad we made that decision. We use this app on a daily basis and it saves us a lot of work and time by making it extremely easy for anyone in our team to update the content. We had given one start initially when the issues were happening and now are changing it to 4, given that they solved their problems and that they made a great effort in keeping us informed of their progress. Had it not been for those issues I would have given them 5 stars from the get go.

Update: Our frustrations with Shogun are back. The HTML Shogun builds is VERY poorly built, it literally adds hundreds of unnecessary and they follow little to no semantics. I've complained a few times about this, and their response is 'that's how our team built it'.

Oh well.
