Add customers automatically to MailChimp

During the checkout process, Shopify asks your customers if they’re interested in receiving marketing information from your store. When a customer completes an order and agrees, MailChimp for Shopify will automatically subscribe them to your MailChimp list.

Target email campaigns based on buying behavior

MailChimp for Shopify will also relay e-commerce data to your MailChimp account, allowing you to target email campaigns based on your customers' buying behavior. Tell them about special offers and promotions, or send product recommendations to customers based on their purchases.

By enabling e-commerce link tracking on your email campaigns, MailChimp for Shopify will pick up on sales generated by your campaigns. Your campaign reports in MailChimp will contain detailed information to help you measure the ROI of your campaigns and help you optimize your email marketing strategy.

Automate email campaigns

MailChimp's powerful marketing automation tools, now available to free accounts, make it easy to reach your customers and deliver the right content at the right time. When you connect your Shopify store, you can use one of our preset automation workflows to automatically send abandoned cart messages encouraging shoppers to complete their purchase, follow up with your customers that visited your site with retargeting emails, re-engage inactive customers with incentives and relevant product recommendations, or reach out to customers after they buy an item from your store.

Send content that matters with personalization tools

Using MailChimp's advanced segmentation tools, you can target automated campaigns based on e-commerce data, geolocation, and more.

Deliver personalized product recommendations to each customer based on their purchase history, advertise your store’s upcoming promotions, and reward your best customers. After sending, monitor MailChimp’s robust campaign reports to measure ROI, see what’s working, and learn how you can get better.

Facebook Ad Campaigns in MailChimp

Combine your email marketing efforts with Facebook ads to create an integrated marketing campaign that makes it easy to target current customers, grow your audience, and keep your messaging consistent. MailChimp Reports will tell you your ROI and how many customers you’ve acquired, along with standard metrics like cost per click.

really bummed that I can no longer drag products into my campaigns. It seems to be working still for retargeting but that's not doing me any good. I hope this is just a bug, if the feature is going to be removed entirely I may start looking for a different email marketing solution.

We installed and used the app for direct mail to our customers who signed up for our mailing list, and to advertise promotions - we have just removed the app from our store.

The interface was a bit cumbersome, and there were several variables that needed to be entered with each campaign. There were some stability issues, and we found that the app didn't recognize our store connection and had to reconnect with each use staring in about July 2017.

During Black Friday the app would not allow promotions from the product page in the shopify dashboard - we received an error page that they were aware of the issue and working on it. We went to the app dashboard to find that the app apparently recognized our login, but nothing about our account. It was asking us to reinstall and provided no access to the existing account.

3 days in we contacted shopify and mailchimp. As of 7 days later, Mailchimp has not resolved the issue, has no explanation for it, and we have been unable to use the app. We were (and are) concerned that Mailchimp has access to our customer information - but at this time we have no answer as to what happened, why, or what the solution is.

Mailchimp support is POOR. 2 messages in 7 days over what appears to be a fatal error with their app that has been installed for months, and no explanation.

We have removed the app at this time.

I was looking for mailchimp email marketing

MailChimp is great and so is Shopify but this integration is not.
It should be a no-brainer to send basic customer details to your MailChimp list (such as address) or Customer Tags so that you can more effectively segment your campaigns.
Instead, I need to download my customers from Shopify with their details and then upload the list update to MailChimp manually before I send every campaign.

Please delete my account as I no longer use Shopify. Thank you

A very basic feature I'd like is to email customers who bought types of products (so I know their interest) and can target them... Mailchimp can't get this data????? Its pretty untargeted for me to email by 20k users every newsletter. Seems like a basic feature.

The MailChimp® Email Marketing: Abandoned Cart, Win-Back, & Post-Purchase is not functioning properly for me and my Shopify online store. I am using a free account right now with MailChimp. I have sent out 3 newsletters to my customer list. That went fine. However, when new newsletter subscribers sign up via my Shopify website they are not receiving the confirmation email to click on and confirm their subscription to my newsletter list.

I really wish the double opt in would work especially since MailChimp is very clear about customers confirming their subscriptions. The other problem with MailChimp is that you get no online support, only for the first 30, for the free accounts. So you have no way to know what you need to fix or what the issue is. I would gladly upgrade my plan and get the online support but I don't want to do that until I know it is working correctly.

It's price makes it unacceptable.

I dont have a need to message my customers every month. they are happy to charge you cheaply for 10,000 emails a month if you have less than 2000 subscribers, but once you go over that expect to pay a fair bit more. it may suit you if you have regular repurchasing from customers but if your like me this app with its vendor locking will dead end you.

I hope shopify provides better integration and cheaper alternatives to others.

After the initial review a few years back, we tried this app again. I'm afraid to say that there are far too many bugs to make it worthwhile. The integration only semi-works. If you 'send' a collection to Mailchimp to build an email, it doesn't build the links correctly (just links to https://products/...). So, if a customer clicks an image, they simply get an error on 50% of products. Even their support said they have seen it before but couldn't remember how to fix it, and never came back to us. Great. In short, the integration between Mailchimp and Shopify isn't that great, and to continue avoiding errors, I would suggest manual movement of data. Shame really.

Original Review:
Using this app caused (according to Shopify themselves) our customer records to be amended. It altered the customer option to 'agree to marketing, or not' - and set them all to agreed! Obviously this has huge data protection implications, and could have landed us in a lot of legal trouble. For that reason we have removed this app and had to spend half a day correcting our customer accounts on Shopify. I'm extremely annoyed about the work this app has caused our company, but also about the lack of response from Shopify support (i.e. sounds like the app playing up, we'll look in to it).

Quite disappointed. Have been having so many issues with the automation flow. Had to remove someone from it and of course, thats impossible without a hacker to code requests into the API. Great. Did you bother to open shopify? They have a button next to a subscriber...this seems such a basic feature that whoever did the concept for automation must have really not considered user experience a factor. Good job people.
