The behavior you mentioned comes from our older mode, which worked this way only because, at the time, Shopify didn’t provide any native way for apps to add paid product options to checkout. Fortunately, this is no longer needed.

We’ve recently introduced a new option - CTA Mode (powered by Shopify native Cart Transform API) - which works completely differently and avoids creating any cloned products or extra variants.

More benefits of the new CTA mode:
