TaxJar Sales Tax Automation

Do not use this app. Is the worst customer service experience when you need anything from them. In addition to that, if you mark your customer in your store as exempt, Tax Jar won't take this and will file ignoring this. This cause that you'll have to file an amendment with each State and eventually you'll loose money. Don't use this app. it doesn't do the job as expected.

Tax Jar - The juice ain't worth the squeeze.

Tax Jar filed incorrect sales & use with the State of New Jersey for us and wanted us to pay Tax Jar again to correct mistakes their app makes. Sounds like a winner right!
Taxable and non taxable items in shopify do not line up with Tax jars system. When a sale happens on shopify it goes through Tax jar’s system and you have re-categorize every single sale to ensure non taxable items are not taxed. Nothing like going backwards when busy season is happening to correct these mistakes Tax Jar app makes.
This is what happened to us, we had to pay sales tax out of pocket on non taxable items.
Now to the real kicker, Tax Jar just doubled their pricing from $19.00 a month to $39.00 a month. So you have a company who’s unwilling to correct their mistakes as well as doubling prices for an app that truly does not simplify your life or work properly.

The app is unusable for any Shopify merchant who has a base currency that is not USD... It assumes USD in the connection to Shopify, which makes the filing completely wrong (they could just read in the USD values from the order, but they didn't think to do such a simple thing).

A spoke at length with the support team, who eventually just said they are aware of the shortcoming, but said it wasn't on their roadmap to fix it.

So for now, we are doing manual imports to TaxJar which defeats much of the purpose of even using them in the first place.

Looking at other reviews of this app, I can see TaxJar are not concerned with building a robust platform that actually works.

Very poor service.

*****BEWARE!! DO NOT USE TAXJAR!!! *****Charging us $30,000 in states sales tax when we really owe $300. RIDICULOUS!!! They will not help us amend this before filing. They will be stealing $30,000 from us that we don't have!! They also take days to respond and there are deadlines that they will not help before!

Support can't tell me why the total sales in one county do not equal the sum of sales in three cities located within that county. I'm just getting cut and paste replies that suggest I should inquire with my state's DOR. My return is being flatly rejected because of their faulty calculations. How could the state have an answer for Taxjar's unacceptable numbers? They've basically shrugged their shoulders literally telling me that Taxjar uses 'lots of tax logic'.

No way to connect this to the SANDBOX. If you want to test this, you will POLLUTE your live data.

missed tax payment ... showed them and they said they could file it in 6-8 weeks-- oh and I got a late fee

I’ve been a customer for years. Needed support last week and no one is there to help me. They won’t get on the phone with you unless you’re on the $349/mo plan. Will change to another app!

TaxJar makes paying sales tax extremely easy and hassle free. The customer service is why I'm taking the time to leave a review. A few months back our State Department of Revenue made an error that resulted in an incorrect payment. I notified TaxJar and they took the time to contact them and solve the problem. I really appreciate TaxJar going above and beyond to help a small business function. I would recommend them to anybody with an ecommerce business!

It sure takes a load off of calculating taxes for California. It's a bit pricey for having just one nexus maybe, but a lifesaver in general.
