This is a scam. No one answers the phone, email, or chat. I received an email saying my taxes had been filed and the money would be taken out of my account soon if it had not already been taken out. Next thing I know I'm getting a letter from the comptroller saying I have late fees for not filing on time plus I still need to file for the quarter. WTF!!!! Now I have to file myself and pay late fees because this service did not do what I paid it to do. Makes me worried that now they have all my information and it seems to just be a scam. WASTE OF MONEY!

We signed up for this app because they promised that it could provide needed data regarding nexus. We paid almost $6k for their system and now that it is all set up we are not able to pull the needed data that was promised. They will not refund us despite having tried for over a month. Now we have to pay a different tax advisor more money to get the actual info. This company has terrible customer service and was deceptive when explaining their features. The system is clunky and slow. Use a local sales tax advisor and the native Shopify features and you will be fine.

Shopify collects CA taxes at a modified origin rate. However, TaxJar is only able to autofile CA sales tax as Destination sourcing which completely defeats the whole purpose of doing auto-file with TaxJar if the numbers Shopify collected is going to be totally off from what TaxJar is going to pay. Recently TaxJar paid out over $500 extra that I didnt even collect in Shopify. TaxJar needs to figure out how to setup destination sourcing for their autofile.

DO NOT recommend this app. There is absolutely no way to get a hold of customer support and they never get back to emails. PayPal does NOT integrate with this app. Would not recommend to anyone. HUGE waste of money.

Hi there,

Thanks so much for taking the time to share your feedback. Though the subscription plan you selected includes email support, we took a look at your ticket and can confirm that a member of our support team responded to your email the same business day. We are ready and willing to provide further help, but we have not yet received a response from you with the detail we need to move forward working on your case. If you could reply to that email with the additional information our team member requested, we're confident we can help resolve all of the questions you have. And, if you are interested in upgrading to a subscription plan that includes immediate phone support, we'd also be happy to share more detail about that plan.

Sorry, I tried this service out for 3 months and is has several shortcomings that prevent me from recommending it. I also recommend you do not pay for it a year in advance, if you cancel they will not offer a prorated refund.

• There’s too much manual work involved in marking tax exempt orders to make it useful for me. There is zero automation for this.
• No assurance that I could get shopify set up to charge the same sales tax that Taxjar's internal algorithm would compute. Taxjar integration is really one way, they compute accurate taxes on their end with their algorithm, and near impossible to get your store set up to compute the same rates.
• Can’t use auto file because of the above differences and inability to automatically recognize exempt orders

Shady On-Boarding Practices: If you are a small business, don't use this app. It will not save you time nor money. It's built for big business with Nexus in multiple states. But they will not tell you that. My sales rep put us on the $100/month plan, although almost a year later I found out there was a $20/month plan that would have been better for a business of my size (there was no mention of this cheaper plan at the time). They will also put you in a year contract without tell you (yep, it's one of those companies). Being on the Shopify app store, it's assumed the app is month-to-month like all other apps. Lastly, if you go over the order value on your account (maybe you get a good sales month), an extra $100 fee is put onto your account (not like a $100 a month was enough already for what we were using it for). ---------- The only reason reason I gave them 2 STARS instead of 1 is because they did help me after hearing about this experience. Basically, don't rely on the sales reps with this company. Do your own research before using. If not, it could cost your 100's of dollars like it did me.

it's been a train wreck so far. it's been about a year, and it is constant incompetence and total lack of continuity, sprinkle in a large amount of apathy . i have the "professional" package. it is unfortunate. i want the best for them, i need them to be good. i'm not an office guy. probably, like many here, i'm good at what i sale to my customers. i was hoping for a "single point, do it all, and just pay the fee. which is what was promised. it has been more like, i've become a manager for their company trying to get them to work together to do the job that i haired them for. don't think that you will just call and sort something out. you're going to spend a lot of time playing the "email game" of course i only see my side, so do with this what you will.

This does simplify our tax reporting quite a bit, but we have encountered discrepancies in paid vs fulfilled items - when TaxJar decide to report tax is different than when we collect collect tax. It seems that if they reported tax on the same month as it was collected (when the sale occurred) rather than when the product was fulfilled (sometimes months away), it would more accurately reflect how we pay taxes. We manually change our numbers to match our sales, not our fulfillment dates. Still an improvement over spreadsheets, but not perfect.

Please stay away from this app, there are a lot of hidden charges that they won't tell you about it, they charged me $950 for filing $0 in returns no one has EVER told me that I will be paying this amount. This is a complete scam

Did not import all transactions. Customer service requested that I manually process spreadsheet data into a format that they could import. What's the point of using Tax Jar if I need to manually process data?
