Shopify make you log out automatically after a while, for security reasons I assume, even if you use is continiously. BUT they don't let you know you've been logged out. No notification or email. So you just go on with your day thinking its just noone atm that wants to chat. Then after a few days you get angry emails from customer who doesn't get a respsonse in the chat. Because shopify logged you out. Perfect.

It is a little confusing when I keep seeing old messages. There's got to be a way where you can ask if the conversation is over for ever, or not...

Thanks for sharing your feedback.

To help keep your inbox decluttered, you can try closing conversations when you feel the conversation is over. This will move the conversation under the Closed tab and keep the Open tab cleaner. The customer is not notified of you closing a conversation as it just for management on your side. If the customer continues a conversation you had closed, it will automatically be moved back into Open.

You can close a conversation by clicking the dotted line circle on the left of each conversation under Open or clicking the "..." button > "Close conversation".

We do not currently have an easy way to confirm with the customer if the conversation is over forever, which may be the feature you are suggesting. It's really easy and fast to check all the customer info in the profile bar next to the live chat so you don't have to let the chat to manage the orders
