This app works well and has been able to copy most of our customizations to the new theme after an update. However, we've found that not all customizations are able to be copied, so we still have to have a developer help with theme updates, in order to keep all our customizations.

We have an old Parallax theme which has limited functionality, so we got the app to add the FAQs to our product pages.

I was able to add it to the product pages and it works if you want to add generic FAQs to the pages. However, to get product specific FAQs on each product page you need to add individual metafields for the sub-titles, then each question & each answer. We have close to 100 products so that means hundreds of metafields.

Would great to see this feature added.

Theme updater is easy to use as it carries over all your custom codes to the new theme at the press of a button. I do end up with coding 'conflicts' arising each time, but you just have to look at the code and make your own judgment on which code to accept. I either kept it to the same code or selected the one for the new theme. I don't trust the Ai version.

When updating it will give you a new draft copy of the theme so you don't mess up your Live one. You can always view and check the draft copy to make sure all your customisations are still in place and that everything looks ok before publishing and making it Live.

This app works great for everything it's supposed to do. Something to know for anyone with a vintage theme is that one click updates are not available for any themes that haven't been updated since before the Shopify 2.0 update. I was hoping that at least some of the assets from my shop would be able to be carried over in the update but I am having to recreate the pages manually. If you have been keeping up with updates on your shop or you don't use a vintage theme this shouldn't be a problem.

We are glad to hear that Theme Updater is not part of your themes update process!

The Vintage to OS 2.0 update is due to Shopify's mandate and adjustments to the theme's file structures, and is a one time, manual process. Once a shop is past this threshold, the Theme Updater will be able to handle future updates, and we also recommend that a theme is OS 2.0 when using the app, just to ensure that the update is smoother!

When it works it is very good. But our Pro Plan subscription has broken which means that the app doesn't work, and we can't access the priority support we paid for. Update: We have received excellent support from OOTS who have stuck with us and resolved a difficult issue. This review has been upgraded to 4 stars to reflect the quality of the app itself.

In regards to the update itself, it sounds like some previous code customizations failed to transfer to the new version. This can be custom code added to theme files or code/scripts from third party apps.

ADDITION 10/6/23: I am upping this to 4 stars. It is still very odd that the app messed up section on my page. HOWEVER, I did contact Out of The Sandbox and they replied very quickly and they fixed it! The reason I wrote the review is because last time I contacted them it took days for them to get back to me. So I wanted to make sure this was handled quickly. This time they really replied quickly, within 24 hours, and fixed the issue the same day or next (I think we are on different time zones).

ORIGINAL REVIEW: Quite frustrating. Basic elements on my website get changed randomly and I have to go back and update tot he way we had it originally. I am referring to colors, fonts, banner message, our logo gets lost, it's really bad. Especially since we pay $9/month for the pro version.
I am NOT talking about custom code, that I know already you guys don't move over, but the basics? Colors? Fonts? Really bad.

I'm a long time online seller and this app has been great the handful of times that I"ve updated in the past three years. But I cannot believe that I paid $350 for a theme (with 1 store usage allowed), and now OOTS wants to charge $9 a month and/or $108 a year (forever) to let an app stay installed in my store that I use two or maybe three times a year at a maximum?? BOO HISS. Horrible. The updater is great so I hate to leave 1 star because of this new policy, but its a complete disappointment to see these guys get so greedy when their themes are highly priced.

EDIT 1/16 After leaving this review, their team explained my problem more accurately and they offered a better and more practical solution which I appreciate. Terrible app, terrible customer experience. I updated my theme and the result was awful: translations missing, errors, the product images, prices and description don’t show correctly and they don't adapt correctly to the screen either. I tried contacting support and they told me that's normal so I have to fix them? How am I supposed to fix them when its not a design problem but a deeper code problem? Also they are charging me even though the app didn't do what it promised and after cancelling the first day.

Thank you for your feedback! When updating your theme to OS 2.0, all content, such as home page content, will need to be rebuilt.

This is a one-time process required by Shopify to align with new templating standards. You will still be able to use the Theme Updater to help streamline your updates with future releases.

I used this app last week to upgrade the Turbo theme on my store. It worked, but it did not transfer much of the configuration or any of the tweaks to the original theme. I still had to spend a few hours re-configuring my stores homepage and collection and product configurations, so not sure if it actually helped or not.
