First and foremost, I would like to address some of the reviews that disparage this app for being complicated and difficult to learn. The developers have posted DOZENS of step-by-step articles (buildateam.zendesk.com) that address almost anything that could arise while learning how to navigate the interface. There is always going to be a learning curve that ONLY trial and error will teach. But, for what this app is capable of, it is well worth the investment in time. At least for us, the cost of the app and the amount of time spent learning it has resulted in far less time on things that either don't work, or don't accomplish our goals. After two years of refining graphics for our Shopify Store (still under construction), We were convinced that our only choice for product page presentation was going to be to render the tens of thousands of possibilities for customizing our products ourselves, and split them into several categories and collections. Luckily for us, we spent most of that time on layered graphics illustrations, that can now be used to allow the customer to choose their own opinions, thanks to Custom Product Builder. Something we have always wanted to be able to do. This app has simplified our website development to the point where we are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel ! We couldn't give it a higher recommendation....

The app provides a lot of customisation options but the documentation is not upto the mark. The backend is extremely confusing and outright illogical in certain areas. For example, you can not create a product using Shopify's backend. To enable customisation in a product, you have to create the product in the Custom Product Builder App. It seems to be a simple process of importing all products from shopify, but that is not supported by the app. UPDATE: Rest all features are a good mix of ways to work around the shopify's limitations and the after sales support is fantastic. The developers were more than helpful in customising the app for our specific needs.

Disappointed with this app. I initially had really high hopes - interface-wise, it looked the best among similar apps and had the most logical process (although it takes a while to get the hang of it but once you do, it's great) the app has a LOT of bugs that cannot be fixed. Customer service is extremely slow and I would wait weeks to get a response back (yes, while paying 50$ a month which is a very high price for a half functioning app). In the end, they couldn't give me what I needed and neither were they willing to offer a refund despite my requests for taking long to get back to me and not solving my problems. Other apps I've dealt with offer refunds immediately if their app doesn't meet your needs. Also, make sure to check compatibility with other apps you are using. This app also turned out to be incompatible with a multi-country pricing app I was using.

We are sorry that you experienced delays with our support team.
We took steps to improve our processes and we try to respond to submitted tickets much faster now.
We also started receiving more and more complex custom product requests and even though our application is already quite flexible, we have hard times catching up with all the customization & features that are being requested. It does indeed take us some effort & time unfortunately to deliver, but it's pleasing to see the end result eventually. We thank everyone for their patience with us. We are trying to make things better as fast as we can..
We also apologize that you have not received a full refund when you asked for it. There was some miscommunication and your request was never sent to Shopify support who actually handles the refunds. We have taken care of this now and have asked them to send you a refund for the time that you were unable to use the application. We hope that it was already processed and deposited to your account!
We have also worked on building compatibility with some of the multi-currency apps. We will continue monitoring this situation and keep adding more integrations.

The Idea is very clever, however the clunky backend and large menu is not user friendly, especially when going back and forth the menu options.The in-ability to upload images as thumbnails and re-size them straight off the bat is quite disappointing, especially for a $50 app.
One would expect the admin structure to be more user friendly and professional for the price you are paying - It just doesn't look finished.
As previously said, the idea is great, but for $50 per month, it is really not worth that, when you can in some cases get other apps that just about do the same with better menu's, much cheaper and not as frustrating.

Great App, but very poor in helping new users figure it out. It's confusing, messy and overall hard to learn. Support is not easily accessible and that was enough for me to switch to a different app. Great app if you have 5-10hrs to invest in trial & error due to a complete lack of a guide/how-to

Indeed, we have been adding SOOO many features requested by our customers over the last few years that the product setup interface became like a cockpit control panel!
We have recently started working on a refactoring / redesigning project for the admin interface to simplify it and optimize for our users based on the feedback that we have received.
While still in development - now it can be found under 'CPB App > Global Settings > Enable Beta Editor'. We are also working on adding more tooltips with instructions and short videos into the interface.

terrible UI, spent far too long learning it for it to be plagued with bugs. Devs didn't email back in reasonable time frame and failed to fix issues.

We really strive to resolve all issues reported in the least possible timeframe. However sometimes tasks take more development time than anticipated. We have developed a rather complex application that takes into account a lot of different possibilities for combining customization and personalization options.

This complexity is reflected in the UI and the timeframe required to get onboarded.
Its like working in (learning) Photoshop pretty much, but it's CPB instead. Sometimes we think ourselves that our app looks like a pilot cockpit - so many checkboxes and settings. And everything needs documentation.

In order to cover for possible delays during the initial product setup we offer a 30-day free trial, so that there is enough time to take care of everything that matters. Your case was reported on Thursday and by Sunday we released a patch. We informed you on Monday, however it seems like it was too late. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Let us know if you have any constructive recommendations or suggestions for UI / UX that would help our customers onboard faster. So far we have been trying to achieve that by adding user guides, videos and tooltips. Realistically we aren't sure if we can simplify things - because many of our happy customers use very customized versions of our application.

Please let us know, if we can do anything for your project to help make sure that you are more satisfied with our application and support.

Update: Support really tries and offers custom solutions and quick developer support! I will update again after the support solves my issues.

Support tries to help but the tool is really not worth 50$ a months... First I could not save changes, not front view collides with other views and cannot save it properly. Jumps back to front all the time.

We are really sorry that you have experienced issues while trying out our Custom Product Builder App. There may be many reasons for why it happened. For example an older browser version, theme setup or other custom apps & scripts in your store may conflict with our application.
We are 3-person bootstrapped team and we have helped many Shopify merchants to set up their custom products using our application. We understand that our app is not ideal and we always try to come to the rescue whenever someone has issues. We are also working on refactoring the application, improving user experience and optimizing the performance.

Nice functionality but it frequently doesn't save the product variants properly and you have to re-do it which takes ages to set-up.

Please note that currently in order to ensure the custom product categories / options / custom layers are saved properly – first click SAVE at the bottom of the category / panel / option screen, and only after that the SAVE button at the top of the page.

I uesd the app for 4 days, didn't work like it should. Waited on support to fix the problem, just kept getting passed around, but yet they say there is 24/7 support.
